1982 Mazda RX7 Savanna LSD Spec Edn Rotary 2.2 nom

Summary:

The only car I've ever really admired

Faults:

There is a little rust at the bottom of both doors, which is not bad enough to bother about. Otherwise no problems as yet.

General Comments:

It is unusual to find a 1982 Savanna RX-7 LSD at all.

It is even more unusual to find one that is virtually the same as the day it left the factory.

Made for the Japanese home market, the car features a cruise control, leather interior, 'rotor' styled wheels, tinted windows, and a 6-port induction 12a engine.

As a finishing touch, an emergency flare is provided as standard.

I've never before thought of cars as being 'beautiful', but the bullet-shape of this '82 model is just that.

Even now, some 21 years after it was made, there's nothing on the road quite as good looking as my Savanna!

It looks as if it's doing 100 mph when it's just standing still.

In its day, it was one of the fastest, but time and engineering developments have improved generally, and it's not as lively as some quite 'ordinary' cars.

This is my sixth RX-7, and by far the best of the bunch.

I'm desperately trying to keep the mileage down to preserve the car for future owners.

Base models did not come with LSD. the GSL and GSL-SE models had LSD.

I've also owned six 1st generation RX7s, two of which we still have, and all of which were (are) the GSL 12A package. The two current ones are an '84 and an '85. Previous ones were an '81, two '82s and an '85.

The LSD was first available in the 1981 model year and only on the GSL. (In Canada this package was known as the GX until the 1984 model year, when it joined the rest of the free world and called it the GSL package).

Four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power mirrors, sunroof, digital clock, factory mags, shaded windshield, headlight sprayers (except in the U.S.), rear window wiper, power antenna, cruise control and leather-wrapped steering wheel were also included in this option package.

The only items that didn't come standard on the GSL (and later on the GSL-SE) were power steering, leather upholstery and air conditioning. They were available, but at extra cost.

1994 Mazda RX7 FD3S Twin turbo Rotary

Summary:

I liked it so much I bought a second one

Faults:

The clutch was replaced at 37,000 miles, but the replacement developed a judder problem and had to be replaced.

The air con condenser was punctured by a stone.

General Comments:

Bad Points: Fuel consumption, rattly trim, drivability in traffic.

Good Points: Handling, performance, power delivery, styling, interior design, engine smoothness, rareness.

Try outrunning a 993 Porsche twin turbo then. That car would cost about three times what yours is worth on the second hand market.

Believe me that car would "BLOW YOU INTO THE WEEDS"!

Try not to make "idiotic claims", it makes you sound like a school child!

To be fair though, you're gonna have to be very accomplished behind a wheel to exploit all 600 horses effectively. And let's face it, those other than the few that would purchase a Porsche, such as this, for enthusiast/track day use, are purchasing it simply for the 'bling' factor.

The Mazda RX-7 is the winning-est model in IMSA racing history; far ahead of Porsche in the record books. It also has an outright Le Mans victory to its credit in 1991. A stock RX-7 13B Twin-Turbo engine also makes more horsepower per cubic inch than any production Porsche ever made. The 3.19 hp per cubic inch that the rotary produces is higher than even the Ferrari F40. In 1993, an RX-7 was found to be quicker around a track than a Porsche 930. Since the model Porsche you refer to is a current issue car, perhaps a fair comparison would be the Japanese Banzai RX-7 with the three rotor 20B engine. The result of such an encounter would undoubtedly leave any Porsche 993 driver realizing that they had just made an eager and presumptuous swing at Bruce Lee in a dark alley.
