1999 Mazda Xedos 6 2.0 litre V6

Summary:

Luxury, a great drive, but a bugger to fix

Faults:

The transmission had a problem when I bought the car, making it very, very hard to drive in town. Being an auto, at lights or a junction you need to put your foot on the brake. The car would idle for maybe 5 seconds and then stall - bloody dangerous. The only solution was to put the car into park, put the handbrake on and then undo when a gap opened up or the lights changed; much harder in an auto than a manual, and of course not the point.

General Comments:

I can't complain at all really. This car cost me 200 pounds, my Dad's neighbours were replacing it because of the problem (which would have been an expensive fix), and I just needed a runner for 2.5 months.

And on the open road this car was amazing - the best I have owned and driven, and I've owned Audis, Hondas, Toyotas as well as the Fords and Vauxhalls you might expect it to trump.

I wish they still made it, and I'd buy a newer version to keep.

Would love to have known if you ever got it fixed. Such a rare and underrated car, the Xedos 6 and 9.

1999 Mazda Xedos 6 SE 2.0L

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned

Faults:

Engine tappets are noisy on startup even though engine oil was flushed at last oil change. Noise lasts a few minutes.

Driver's side window shudders when lowering.

Steering has become a bit slow to respond.

General Comments:

Engine and gearbox are excellent.

Looks gorgeous.

Beautiful V6 engine and very satisfying acceleration and gear change.

An eye-catcher - have had many people ask me what type of car it is and all are impressed.

Drivers of these cars do not let go of them easily. I bought mine for £2000 by approaching somebody and making an offer. After much persuasion he eventually sold it to me.

1999 Mazda Xedos 6 SE 2.0 V6 24v i 2.0

Summary:

Unusual and rare Jaguar X Type alternative at a fraction of the cost. A dream to own

Faults:

The only minor thing that has gone wrong with this stunning car is the front headlight bulb.

It has been absolutely faultless since I bought it, bu the servicing is expensive so beware. I has the car serviced at 56000 miles having just bought it and it cost me £900!

The cream leather seats do tend to attract dirt, but that is the risk you take with such a light color.

General Comments:

A superb, quick and luxury saloon car which really is a rarity to see on the UK roads. It is a good feeling to drive a car which stands out from the crowd and has performance to match.

It oozes the feel of an "X Type" Jag and feels just as well built if not better.

Keep it well serviced and it could do the same mileage as my friends one which has nearly clocked 300,000 miles!!!

If they still built them I would have an order down for a new one tomorrow!!

I too had one of these lovely cars. They go best with a sprinkle of parmesan.

Like an E type?

Actually the Mazda is much better built as the E type was rubbish apart from its looks.

It Said X Type not E Type.

Hi, great to read all the above comments, I am about to purchase my first xedos 6, have had 3 Mazdas in the past 2x 626 and 1 323 so I know all about Mazda reliability!.

Just wondering about parts etc (should the need ever arise) is there any where that's reasonable for xedos 6 parts etc?
