1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 e 2.0

Summary:

Affordable luxury

Faults:

Fitted a new clutch at 165,000.

Fitted a new water pump at 100,000.

Fitted a new fuel pump 182,000.

Electric windows have been a problem.

My head gasket blew at 98,000.

The front drivers seat material has worn badly.

General Comments:

The ride of this car is immensely smooth.

The engine is built to last, and is not the quickest of the mark, but the smoothest on the highway.

The ride is very quiet.

It is still a stunning car inspite of it age.

The driving position is very good, and you could be fooled to think you were in your living room.

1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 Cosworth 2.5 - 16

Summary:

The best car to date, I love it!

Faults:

Head gasket blown.

Broken camshaft.

Blowing blue smoke slightly on gear change even though while head work was under-way, a cylinder inspection resulted in good general engine condition.

Head was skimmed at the same time as other work was carried out.

Exhaust blowing slightly, I decided to replace the whole system, later finding out the price much to my disgust.

General Comments:

I love these cars, it's my second Cosworth to date and I can't help but throw all my hard earned away on them.

The cars handle really well for their size, but big wheels and lowered suspension are a must for the little country lanes around me.

People who try and alter the sound from their 190 are mad. The car has a lovely deep sound as standard, which is increased in volume with ease just by simply drilling the airbox.

The interior of the car is best when re-trimmed in a softer leather than standard as the original is of a hard material with a chequered centre section, which seems cold and uncomfortable on long journeys.

In general the Cosworth 190e is a beautiful car to look at and drive, it tends to be blessed with more character than more modern Mercedes, which I can only put down to a wider imagination of designers in the 80's.

1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 Cosworth 16v 2.5

Summary:

A Cossie, but shhh, don't tell everyone

Faults:

Not a lot can go wrong with this car as it's built like a battleship.

I've had a few problems with the air conditioning and one door rubber, plus a fuel pump is noisy, but if you keep it regularly serviced by a good mechanic, all should be OK.

Cam belt a must to keep an eye on.

Engine can be a bit noisy.

General Comments:

Fast car for a 4 seater weighing 1 1/2 tons.

Heavy clutch & gears make changing a bit slow.

Stunning performance, but don't forget it has a fuel cut off at 6300 revs. to stop you blowing the engine.

Top speed around 145 mph.

0-60 in around 7 seconds.

Get some good treads & it handles well.

A very safe car even when driven to its limits, but watch out for the light steering.

Ere. - I think you'll find that there is no cambelt. It is a chain.

Once I owned a manual 23 16 & crashed, then, I have many other cars. Now, I owned another one again because it is so great after experience with all other cars.

I managed 175 MPH (indicated) in Germany - I have a 2.3 and I love it... This has to be the best value quality car around. Watch for rust at the rear of the floor pan.

Just bought a 2.3 cosworth collect in 5 days can't wait!!!

For the guy who says 175mph out of a 2.3 cosworth (it's a car not a time machine!!) 175Kph that's a bit more like it.

1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.0

Faults:

Nothing major - brakes seem to wear out quite quickly.

General Comments:

Wonderful car - still enjoy driving it after 10 years - time to trade it in, but can hardly bear to give it up.
