2018 Mitsubishi ASX Juro 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Boring

Faults:

No faults.

General Comments:

The ASX is the type of SUV you buy if you want a modern no nonsense large family vehicle. It is not a bad car - just boring.

"Juro" trim model has plenty of kit as expected for a modern car. Interior rather dull to be honest. And so is the exterior. In dark red, nice enough, but no looker. Inoffensive and bland.

Boring to drive, not that economical (35 mpg so far) but I guess for a large SUV with a petrol engine it isn't bad. But not very fast.

Main dealer has been OK for servicing.

Plenty of space for anything you need to carry.

Not as fun to drive as my old Mazda CX3. But the ASX isn't a bad car, just nothing exciting. Buy one if you just need modern reliability. Then sell it before it sends you to sleep!

2015 Mitsubishi ASX 3 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Weird, but it works

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

My first cross over / SUV type vehicle. Just needed something modern and reliable as a second car, never knew anything about these cars but decided to give it a go.

ASX is a typical modern car, nothing fancy, just gets you from A to B reliably.

Not a car to drive for the fun of it, but it is OK. Performance isn't spectacular, and economy isn't great as it struggles for around 39 mpg, but it's a simple engine.

Not as spacious as you might think. Rear legroom is limited, and the boot space isn't very big.

A pretty unremarkable car. Dull, but does the job. Buy one if you hate taking the bus.

2011 Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 turbo diesel

Summary:

A comfortable, refined, small but spacious 4wd, with every conceivable extra

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

Very spacious and comfortable car in the front and the back. Good sized boot and load area.

Quiet and refined on the motorway and around town.

Very little body roll for a tall car. Excellent, slightly elevated driving position.

Good steering, excellent brakes.

Started with a 400 mile motorway journey, followed by normal roads, then lots of twisty narrow roads on the Hebrides and Scottish highlands. The ASX handled it all.

The 4wd got us out of trouble once with the driver's side wheels on tarmac and passenger side wheels in deep mud. In another incident, the traction control cut in and saved us from a slide in a heavy rainstorm, which had turned the road into a river.

10 miles per litre economy on the above trip.

Very well equipped, with every conceivable gizmo.

Rather poor backward and side view, but excellent rear camera.

Not as quick as my old Merc away from the lights, but plenty of mid range torque and acceleration. Very willing engine. Cruises quietly at 80. Speedo under reads by about 5mph over 70.

Keyless doors and ignition takes some getting used to.

Awesome Kenwood tuner / iPod / CD / DVD / Garmin sat nav / Bluetooth mobile phone interface, fantastic.
