Bought this 4 years ago and has been totally reliable. I treat cars really badly and have only serviced this once and that cost me 50 quid and it hasn't seen a garage since. had the lancer my previous car for 11 years and 250000 miles so have to recommend mitsubishi.

Cheap for a good reason!!!
All fog lights and dips blew at some stage.
Radiator needed to be replaced due to manufacturer problems (told by dealer).
Water pipe burst shortly after buying.
Problems with driver and boot door locks. Absolute heap of junk.
Don't be fooled by the low price of this car (second hand) in comparison to others. It depreciates enormously for a good reason.
Even the dealers know whats wrong when they see you coming. You would be better going for a better make with higher mileage.
The car handles like its on rails, and a pretty good MPG, but I would still swap for a nice pair of Nikes' anyday. I've had that much trouble.

I have just been given a 2000 GDI. It cuts out while stopping and surges while driving at constant revs.I've put new plugs in, but can't find where the fuel filter is to replace it. Any suggestions?
Its beside and below the windscreen washer bottle, shaped like an oil filter, only longer and narrower.
I am just trading in a 2000 Carisma 1.8 GDi. Okay it's bland and dull to drive, but reliability has been great. Nearly always 40 mpg. In five and a half years it has only failed me once - failed throttle body (a Volvo part actually). Cost £1200 to fix at dealer, but Mitsubishi UK paid half even though the car was 18 months out of warranty. I wouldn't buy one new, but used Mitsubishi's can be bargains if you want reliable, value for money motoring.
Mine was cutting out every time I came to a stop for a couple of years.
A mechanic took off the intake and sprayed the automatic choke butterfly with some special spray and it has never cut out since.

My 1999 carisma GDI has been fantastic. It is an automatic and has required absolutely nothing in the way of parts or service other than the normal once a year service or 9000 miles. A beautiful trouble free vehicle I would recommend to anyone
