1992 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 turbo diesel

Summary:

Great 4x4, a little thirsty, very reliable

Faults:

Rocker gasket started to leak oil at 242,500. Looked like it was the original gasket from when the Pajero was made, as it was rock hard.

Still leaves a small oil patch now and then. Leak can't be found to date, don't count this as major problem.

General Comments:

This is a great 4x4 overall.

Handling is great, except in 2wd it's a little tail happy if you accelerate a little hard coming out of a bend or roundabout in icy or wet conditions.

Interior is well laid out and very ordinary.

Could be better on mpg.

Would buy another 2.5 TD any day.

1992 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5TD

Summary:

Excellent jeep try to buy with history to avoid costly problems

Faults:

Engine Overheated due to a water pump failure. 4 months after I got it at 123,000. The cheapest thing to do was buy a replacement engine €1700.

A few of the dash lights have a mind of their own.

I think the jeep was clocked and maybe crashed before I got it.

General Comments:

Generally very spacious, comfortable quite rattle-free cabin. Jeep is very capable off-road or for pulling a trailer. Only issue really is that you have to push the 2.5td hard to get any performance and that hurts the fuel economy.

I'm a bit confused as to what car you have reviewed, Pajero or Jeep??Please be clear about what you write in your review.

How many of the problems was caused due to lack of maintenance??

Thank you.

Sounds to me that he's using "Jeep" as a generic way to describe all similar vehicles.

It's a Jeep thing.

It is. A vehicle which isn't a pick-up and isn't a passenger car (that looks like one) and is of the same format as a Jeep, is often generically referred to as a jeep in many countries outside North America. Just like a "fridge" - as in Frigidaire.

OK, a jeep... others call Pajero a truck... body on frame/chassis format... In my country, we call all toothpaste "colgate", hehehe.
