Reliability, this is good! A Japanese Astra, but that said, the visibility isn't as good and the back seat passenger won't enjoy the journey as much.
A good, reliable, car with lots of thoughtful extras.

Best car I have owned
The only thing that has gone wrong is a couple of bulbs have blown; apart from that, nothing!!!
The car stands out, and although not rapid, the performance is very good.
Don't pass up looking at these cars as a replacement. I have never regretted my purchase.

A true friend
Noisy electric window solenoid.
I bought this car new. It has never gone wrong.
It still has the original battery and exhaust after nearly 60000 miles and 6.5 years.
It has developed no annoying rattles or small faults, unlike all my other cars.
Its only visits to the garage, other than for servicing, have been for cosmetic repairs to a bumper after a small prang involving a garden wall.
I have been advised by every mechanic I know to cherish it forever, because these cars never let you down.
The longer I keep it, the more fond I get of it. Its 1.8 engine is more than adequate on the motorway, and for fast getaways from roundabouts, and the seats are much better than all the other cars I have owned. Plenty of storage space, and with the rear seats down, there's room for big loads.
When I purchased this car, I planned and budgeted to change it after 5 years for an Audi A3, but I haven't the heart to do it now. In fact I am devastated that Nissan has no replacement model for the Almera on sale in the UK, unless you count the Qashquai, which will not fit my garage.

Good car let down by noise level
- The Back brakes pads got stuck two days after purchasing the car. I returned it to the main dealer this was quickly resolved.
The car is smooth to drive very responsive and I am impressed by the engine. The cabin is of a fair quality for the price range, overall good value for money.
The car does roughly 40 MPG which is good.
However I have one minor bad point which is road and wind noise, when traveling over 40 it is possible to hear, I test drove one before which did not do this so I am not sure if everyone has this issue. However if I can get used to this I believe that it is a good car.

A great used buy
Broken cup holder, does not want to come out anymore.
Not a lot else.
The Sport Plus stands out from the crowd and is generally a great looking car.
Though adequate, I feel much more power could have been made from the 1800 engine to match the sporty look of the car, though group 7 insurance is good.
Build quality is great, though you are not made to feel like you are in a top of the range model with the plastics and awful interior patterning.
Expensive tyres for 16" alloys (Expect quotes between £85-£140!)
All things said, recommended.

My wife has a 2000 Almera, 1.5. Reliable car, rear caliper was replaced as it was sticking.
I have a Primera with 16" wheels, I buy my Nankang NS2 tyres online for £37ish (delivered inc. VAT) and get them fitted locally, saves a lot of money.
Update to original review:-
Cup Holder has in fact fixed itself! So all in all, nothing has gone wrong with the car.
If you can find one, go and buy one, highly recommended.
Rear caliper seized at 44K. Quoted £330 for replacement including boiled brake fluid (must have been like that for some time!) However, they managed to unstick it in the end costing me a shade over £100.
Located cheap tyres, cheapest so far, 195/55R16 V £69 each Avons ZV5s (ran over a nail so had to replace) online.
Still a great used buy, however depreciation for me is a killer. I've been quoted by several dealers £1600-£2000 in p/x, that's over 60% lost in just over 2 years on a 2nd hand car! (Wouldn't expect more than £2500 private sale now.) Goes to show, if you buy one now, it'll be worth the silly money you pay.
Recently bought a 2000 1.8 Nissan Almera Sport Plus for silly money "under a grand". Fantastic car; fast, and cheap insurance.
Previously had a 1.8 Volvo S40. Nice car, but dear insurance, and you can't pass a petrol station, plus my insurance was over half the price. I would recommend anyone looking for a cheap car; buy one.
Take a look at the front cross member. They are prone to rusting out and failing the MOT.
I was amazed how bad my friend's 2000 Almera was; a catastrophic failure of the cross member due to huge rust, cost £600 to put right.
Apparently this is a common fault on them.

Perfect review - Sums up the whole car perfectly - Good car to get from A to B, but BORING. And SLOW (1.5 engine).
