1995 Nissan Micra GX 1.0 16v DOHC

Summary:

A great supermini, which is reliable into the bargain

Faults:

The ECU failed a week after being serviced and cost me £1000 for replacement, even more annoying was the fact the car was a few days out of its warranty.

General Comments:

A nice car but due to the awful service I received from the dealer I would never consider another Nissan.

The car itself is easy to drive and quite responsive and eager.

The dealers were rude, unhelpful and very stubborn - just goes to show that customer care sells cars.

1995 Nissan Micra LX 1.3

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Performance is better than manufacturers figures suggest. Can beat a BMW 316i away from the lights. It's a bit iffy on corners, but this could be sorted with better tyres/suspension.

Like all Jap cars, it needs to be revved quite hard.

A great car to drive around town and more comfortable than expected at 70/80 mph... very quiet and powerful for a little car.

1995 Nissan Micra LX 1.0 petrol

Faults:

Failed to start due to faulty wiring harness after 12k miles.

General Comments:

Goes well if you rev it hard, but results in mid-30's mpg - lousy for a small car!

Seats lack support.

Handling subject to excessive body roll.

Eats front tyres.

I think perhaps you are driving the wrong car. If you find it necessary to thrash your Micra to the extent that you are "eating" tyres and suffering excessive body roll, then why not buy a car that was designed to put up with that. Micras are designed to be cheap convenient runabouts, a job which they perform perfectly, but they're not sports cars by any stretch of the imagination.

1995 Nissan Micra Mauritius 1.0 petrol

Faults:

Squeaks on tailgate.

Window rattle.

O2 sensor.

Reversing light switch.

Cracked headlamp due to flying stones :(

All the above were fixed under warranty apart from the light switch which I left and the headlamp which I replaced myself.

General Comments:

Great car. Shame about the bad handling.

1995 Nissan Micra L 1.0 petrol

Faults:

Reversing light switch.

Heater control.

Gearbox problem which I don't know what it was.

All fixed under warranty.

General Comments:

Great little car until in a fight with a milk tanker.

Have ordered the new Twister which I have test driven. It handles better especially with the PAS although the gears are less fluid.

From a safety point of view, it was hit by 16 tons at a combined speed of approximately 60mph and my wife lived to tell the tale due to air bag and inherent strength (my opinion only) in the shape of the vehicle.
