1998 Nissan Primera GT 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Laughs in the face of all its rivals!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I bought this machine from new and from the first day, I've never been disappointed. It's a spirited, lively performer and you get the feeling that there's always more under the bonnet than meets the eye. I've made many a VW Golf GTi driver feel rather inadequate as I've pushed them aside like yesterday's news.

The car always starts first time without fail. It's solid and sure footed. I only wish they'd build a 2.5 litre V6 model.

Best colours, black or silver!

I myself own a 98 GT. I love it, but I was wondering if anybody out there knows where I can get modifications from - Performance and Styling?

I own the 98 gt too and agree with everything said, I know it's a few years since some of these comments, but try 'chipping' the car - any flat-spots can be rectified.

What a truly fantastic car for the money - stick to Japanese or German cars, leave the French to wow your taste buds!

I'm thinking of buying a Primera GT and have not really owned any performance cars before, how heavy is the insurance for a car like this?

28th May 2006, 09:40

I've got a 99 GT LE, fast motor, 150 bhp as standard, group 14 insurance, which ain't too bad!

Hi there.

I am from New Zealand and the only UK GT P11 2L Hatch models we get are all autos!!

Can anyone give me their experiences on an auto version?

How much difference is there in performance and economy compared to the manual version.

Thankz

1998 Nissan Primera SRi 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Vastly underrated, a fine drivers car

Faults:

Nothing!

General Comments:

You've got to drive one to believe it, in terms of handling nothing in its class compares.

1998 Nissan Primera SLX Estate 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Great to drive, reliable and fun when pushed

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Handles like a dream, goes like a rocket over 4000 revs. Comfortable, unlike previously owned Vauxhall that made my back ache.

Shame it's not prettier - hey it's Japanese!

1998 Nissan Primera SI 1.6

Faults:

Rattly front windows fixed by dealer by lubricating runner wires in door frame.

General Comments:

Very under-rated car. Great handling and build quality although petrol consumption could be a bit better.

I would definitely recommend one.

1998 Nissan Primera SLX 2.0i petrol

Summary:

Excellent reliablity, performance and handling. A very good buy indeed

Faults:

Nothing. Car has only covered 12000 miles but runs great so far. Will post again in a year or two's time....

Update 22/8/2000:

Nothing at all - but changed the gearbox oil to a fully-synthetic 75W90S (ELF) to improve 1-2 gearshift on cold mornings.

General Comments:

Outstanding build quality and warranty. No creaks or rattles of any kind. Head and shoulders above the Ford Mondeo. Excellent ride and handling. Good supplying dealer (Hartwell Nissan, Chester). Only drawback is excessive road noise on coarse surfaces and unadventurous interior and exterior styling.

Update 22/8/2000:

Car is still as good as new. Had 18,000 mile service a few weeks ago; good and reasonably priced service from the dealer.

Excellent and reliable car with very good handling - ideal family saloon. Rather boring styling is its only drawback.

Update February 2003.

Still got this car - now at 26000 miles. Stands on the drive in all weathers and is used by my wife everyday to get to work.

Still as good as the day we bought it. Nothing gone wrong, nothing replaced. Still on original brakes, tyres etc. etc. What can I say? Would buy another in an instant!

1998 Nissan Primera GT 2.0 petrol

Faults:

Door opening difficult in hot weather due to something in the mechanism sticking. Some rattles.

General Comments:

A superb machine and excellent value both for initial outlay and fuel economy. Brilliant handling and responsive engine makes it a joy to drive and many hundreds of miles in the cockpit are a prospect I relish. Seats and ergonomics also excellent. Slightly ugly 5 door is very practical car for all purposes. 8 seater flat packed Ikea dining suite goes in the back no problem.

General Comments:

Not hugely fast, but excellent handling makes it entertaining to drive. Excellent specification including A/C, CD autochanger, electric sunroof, makes this car excellent value for money.
