Apart from the turning circle - A brilliant car

Faults:

When we bought it the aircon didn't work properly - It was a bodge repair - that took about £150 to address.

General Comments:

This is a great car to own and drive - My only gripe is the turning circle of the car is absolutely terrible - I own a 1995 Nissan Primera and I could turn it on a 5p! the new version just can't do the same thing! Unbeliveable!

2000 Nissan Primera Sport 1.8 petrol

Summary:

An inexpensive all rounder!

Faults:

Rear number plate light holder became loose.

ABS sensor failure at 35000 miles.

General Comments:

Great all round car. Doesn't really so excellently in any one area, but performs well in all areas. Comfort is high with climate control and "molded" sports seats.

Reliability is always going to be great with a Nissan. However, I've just had the windscreen replaced after a crack emerged from the lower left of the screen. I don't remember hitting a stone so I can only assume that the screen was duff when I bought the car. Not a big expense, £50 under the insurance.

Despite what some "experts" say, I feel the car's looks are very fetching and not boring in the slightest. The sport trim adds a lot to the overall appeal of the car.

2000 Nissan Primera SE+ 2.0 petrol

Summary:

A very good value business car, with excellent specification as standard

Faults:

Right hand of the two rear number plate illumination lamps has blown too often for mere coincidence (WOW!)

Remote control pads on the key wore out and made the remote locking difficult to operate during the third year.

General Comments:

This is the first Nissan I have driven, and I chose it after careful evaluation against other models such as the Toyota Avensis, Vauxhall Vectra and Ford Mondeo.

Whether it has just been my particular car, I'm not sure, however it seems a lot more sluggish away from the lights than I'd have expected from a 140bhp 2 litre engine. I've been left standing by quite a few surprising cars. However, that apart, I do a lot of Motorway driving for which it has been an absolute pleasure, and the flip side has been excellent high gear acceleration.

Fuel economy has been superb - I have an average of 34.6 miles per gallon, which is exceptional from a 2 litre petrol engine. In the whole three year period, and after nearly 90000 miles, nothing of any significance has gone wrong with the car at all. At times, I do over 400 mile round trips in a day, and the car handles them without any bother at all.

Comfort is very good, and I can happily drive for 3 hours before I stop. A slight criticism would be of the semi-automatic air conditioning, which does not have sufficient control of the temperature, it could have done with 0.5 degree increments. The Xenon Gas Discharge headlamps give excellent visibility in pretty much all conditions.

This car gets changed for a Primera 2.0 T-Spec M-CVT in a week's time, and I am really looking forward to another three years driving the improved model.

Check the electrical cabling running along the inside of the boot. I noticed that mine were frayed and needed to be renewed. Same light!!

2000 Nissan Primera S 2.0

Summary:

Reliable energetic family car

Faults:

Noise on the auto transmission produced only at 60 miles (100 km) per hour.

Fault was diagnosed by dealer as minor. Fortunately the auto CVT was changed and it is working very well now.

General Comments:

The car is confortable. Powerful (nearly 140 bhp), easy to drive.

Noise insulation is good.

The auto box is good.

The engine may be a bit noisy, but this is only noticeable at very low speed.

It actually sounds like it is revving quite slowly at idling speed.

At 40, 50, engine noise is very low with a lot of bass.

At 4000 rev, it becomes more noisy, but so does the road noise surface.

Interior is basic, but is well equipped, the sound system is good. The seats are OK, but not exceedingly confortable.

2000 Nissan Primera Sport 1.8 petrol

Faults:

Front brakes were binding, Nissan failed to rectify problem, had to replace the front pads at 18K and since had no probs. Usually get 50k+ miles from front brake pads

General Comments:

Glad I bought the sport model rather than the S, externally looks smarter with colour coded everything. Interior is darker, white dials and trip computer make for a more enjoyable drive. Steering does seem a bit light, a common complaint.

Previous car was the 1.6 SRI bought it at 12K and put another 80K on it with very little probs, apart from the Exhaust Gas Sensor, which was cheaply rectified (removed and lubricated) once I found a decent Nissan Dealership who knew what they were doing.
