1995 Nissan Serena LX 2.0 diesel

Summary:

Slow, but reliable and practical a bit of a tortoise and the hare affair I really miss the thing

Faults:

Prop shaft cracked twice.

Rust bubbles showing.

Battery gave up unexpectedly.

Hinges broke on back seats making them awkward to fold away.

General Comments:

Really uncomfortable and rattly almost as bad as sitting in a van.

Slow take off and slow top speed.

Noisy ride.

No legroom in the back seats.

Awkward seating position in the middle row.

Great all round visibility due to big mirrors and high ride position.

Looks more like a house-brick than a car.

High fuel consumption considering the complete lack of power.

Spare parts expensive.

Most reliable car I've ever owned. Never failed to start or get me home except in self inflicted circumstances.

Handling is poor. A light drizzle made any surface feel like ice.

Seats are basic.

Huge space in the back when seats are folded down making it very versatile.

8 seats instead of the usual 7 in a people carrier and didn't handle any worse when fully loaded although I doubt it could've handled worst.

1995 Nissan Serena DLX 2.3

Summary:

Poor mans mpv...you deserve what you get!

Faults:

Rear exhaust box is a problem, front brake disc fell out when fully worn down, drive-shaft has just given up the ghost finding it hard to source second hand one. New price an exorbitant £600.

General Comments:

Parts are expensive... would put me off buying one again.

1995 Nissan Serena dLX 2.3 diesel

Faults:

New exhaust and starter motor after 3 years, but I suppose this is normal.

General Comments:

Although this car will never win any style awards it is a good solid reliable car for the growing family. Seats 8 comfortably and still has luggage space. Still in my opinion the best planned people carrier with reference to seat layout, fold-away seat (as opposed to removable ones) and sliding doors. Also still about the only affordable MPV for the normal man in the street.
