1987 Nissan Silvia Turbo 1.8 turbo petrol

Summary:

The best

Faults:

Turbo charger but replaced by dealer when we bought it.

Very hard to control at back end when braking hard in wet weather.

Brake calipers prone to seizing up - needs ABS.

General Comments:

Ilove my Silvia.

She is a wonderful car - just like my wife - sexy, fast and unpredictable but the best ride of my life!

The Nissan Silvia is an excellent car. I own the one with the long bumpers on each end. I also have the older version with the shorter bumpers and a 2litre engine, DOHC 16v. Unfortunately though, the headcylinder suffered severed warping a few years ago. The car now sits in my backyard slowly eating away. If there is anyone interested in purchasing the half-block complete with crank and pistons, feel free to e-mail me on FLUKE1504@helanta.sh.

Faults:

Manifold developed a crack where it meets the main engine. Apparently, this is quite common to Silvia's.

Split gaiters.

General Comments:

Very fast and excellent handling, even with standard suspension. Finding parts or tuning companies is very difficult. Took me 3 weeks just to get an owners manual from my local Nissan dealer.

Always starts in the morning with no fuss and has yet to let me down.

1987 Nissan Silvia 1.8 turbo petrol

Faults:

Clutch and starter motor replaced.

General Comments:

A great car. Other than routine stuff (e.g. tyres, servicing, exhaust) hardly anything has gone wrong (not bad for a 10 year old motor). Totally reliable and still rust free. Only bad points are insurance group 16 and frequent oil changes required. Not as responsive as 200SX but fun nevertheless.
