2004 Nissan X-Trail 2.0dci diesel

Summary:

Loved it, but sounds unreliable and costly in the long run

Faults:

AS in previous comments - Inter cooler replaced under warranty - oil leak (or alike) caused the engine to be splattered in oily-stuff. Not happy & took it back - still not very clean.

This weekend - Clutch has completely worn out - 1st time I needed 'off-road' capability & had to be towed off a slightly muddy field - only to have to be rescued & brought home on a low loader! Nissan garage say it is wear & tear & are asking for £750.

(40,000 miles - never towed & 30 miles round trip on a daily basis) they are having a laugh.

Question : when does a design or recurring problem become a recall issue? I asked Nissan & they had no other references to clutch problems in their database! oh yeh!

General Comments:

Before this weekend - love the car - fun to drive & reliable

Now - No way - reading the comments the quicker I can get rid the cheaper it will be!

I bought it for towing a caravan - glad I haven't yet!

2004 Nissan X-Trail SVE 2.2TD

Summary:

Terrible

Faults:

The problems are as follows:

We are now on our third inter cooler!

It has been recalled twice, once something to do with the fuel system and the second, most recent one to do with the fuel filler?

The GPS was out of date the day we got it, with the M6 toll road not on the CD, nor many other older roads including the new A130 between Southend and Chelmsford.

I drive a lot overseas, and anything above 90MPH produces an horrendous vibration in the ventilation system.

Constant vibrations from the sunroof flap at slow speeds.

Two speakers have had to be replaced due to being misshapen?

The drivers seat has always been very uncomfortable due to the seam on the leather protruding.

And now the clutch goes with 53000 miles on the clock, but with the useless GPS showing my average speed as 41 MPH thus proving that the vast majority of my driving in on the motorway.

Our local dealer of course will not replace the clutch under warranty, and we are therefore left with a bill of £779.00. The clutch problem alone would make one livid, but with everything else that has gone wrong with the car, Nissan have much improvement to make.

General Comments:

This car is unreliable, uncomfortable, and does not do what it says on the can!

Don't blame Nissan for inaccurate GPS maps, that is probably the most common complaint about all SatNav systems!

2004 Nissan X-Trail Dci sport 2.2 turbo diesel

Summary:

Great car, but oh the poor after sales service

Faults:

Cd player failed. Oil leaks from intercooler. Sun roof rattles.

General Comments:

Car been in twice to have oil leak fixed. Each time Nissan garage said no leak present even though drip of oil is visible! Dealer first service did not change oil filter - two week old filter covered in rust! Complained to dealer who wasn't interested - he had got my money. Tyres wearing very badly, dealer said bad driving. Vauxhall after sales was better than this and they were poor!

I had oil leaking from the inter-cooler in my 2004 2.2Dci, it turned out to be a faulty turbo that had sent oil into the inter-cooler. Nissan replaced the turbo under warranty, but oil kept leaking from the inter-cooler pipework, Nissan replaced inter-cooler as well at this point. I still rate the Nissan X-Trail 2.2Dci SVE as a great car and the warranty as bullet proof. I would buy another one with confidence.

Just an update to prior getting rid of my X-Trail - it's a great car, but now needing a third turbo plus a fuel pump problem; does Nissan think I am going to spend 2.8K on a car that's only covered 65k miles with full Nissan service history? Have now ordered a new Toyota. I will NEVER buy another Nissan!

2004 Nissan X-Trail Sport 2.2 DCi

Summary:

An excellent compromise between 4X4 and Estate car

Faults:

Nothing at all which was part of the manufacturers responsibility. The dealer fitted electrics for the tow bar gave problems, but as I am an Electrical Engineer I sorted this myself.

General Comments:

The car is a model of reliability and tows my Caravan well. The fuel consumption is very good solo, but drops dramatically when towing.

The choice of gear ratios is good for both solo and towing.

The selection of gears however is marred by a crunch if hurried.

The handling is reasonable considering the high centre of gravity, but is does roll quite a lot.
