Faults:

Glow plug preheat relay and wiring loom connection to it failed.

Driver seat back broken and had to be fixed by welding the strut halves together. Cheap problem to fix, but annoying.

Radiator needed to be replaced twice. Strange problem that seemed to cause the fins and waterways to separate.

Two glow-plugs seized in their threads before I acquired the vehicle.

General Comments:

This is a very economical car and is still returning around 60mpg at 184,000 miles.

Build quality is excellent with no major drop-offs, rattles or mechanical failures.

The gearbox is very positive and the engine pulls well in spite of the high mileage.

Faults:

Clutch replaced at 90000 miles. Gear selector mech parts replaced at the same time. Gear selection now notchy.

Radiator replaced at approx 85000 miles with overhauled unit. Now showing slight signs of corrosion.

Front brake pads and discs replaced at 98000 miles.

General service items, but nothing major has gone wrong. Gearbox now feels like it won't last forever.

General Comments:

I would have no hesitation in buying another of these fine little motors.

I've caned it for the last 50000 miles and nothing serious has broken. It's comfortable, reasonably reliable, easy and fun to drive.

It's fast enough to keep up with motorway traffic (if a little noisy above 75mph). This means you can thrash it and have a bit of fun without losing your licence.

It returns 59mpg, all day, every day.

The factory stereo is not great, but the speakers are fantastic now I've got a decent radio in.

The boot is bigger than average, meaning you can cram in masses of stuff - with the rear seats down the space is vast.

Faults:

Radiator hose developed a small split causing a lot of steam from the engine. This was quite expensive to repair (£70) as the part had to come from a Peugeot dealer.

Needed new hubs all round due to wrong type of locking wheel nuts bearing fitted. The thread was the wrong size and because of this the threads in the hubs became stripped.

General Comments:

Great little car, I love the funny looks from people in 'faster' cars when I either stay up with them on the straight bits or beat them round twisty bits.

This car has the perfect size boot for a pair of 12 inch subs.

Faults:

Nothing yet! The car came with a full service, new cam belt, brake pads and tyres. After 5000 miles it's still running fine!

General Comments:

First thing I did was peel off the "Mardi Gras" stickers, they came off quite easily. This was my first car and presented good, stylish looks with economical and reasonably nippy driving.

Peugeot make the best diesel engines on the market; the 1.5 has much better performance than my friends' 1.4 and represents great power for the economy - about 50 miles to the gallon. One other thing to look for is colour-coded bumpers, they improve the looks no end!

There's enough room in the back - although it's not for 6ft giants, the boot is big enough and the front seats are spacious.

Disadvantages? Power steering would have been nice, the five door model would be more spacious in the back, the ride can be bumpy when on un-level roads and it's a bit noisy on cold mornings! But you forget them over the advantages.

Overall, the car offers economical and reasonably quick motoring within a stylish and comfortable chassis. Will definitely buy another Peugeot in the future - probably a 306DT.
