1996 Peugeot 106 XLD 1.5 diesel

Summary:

As cheap as it gets

Faults:

Gear linkage went- couldn't reverse. Admittedly due to me taking it off road and slamming it off the ground.

Exhaust needed 2 sections replaced. User abuse. See above!

Head gasket was on the way out when I got rid of it. Leaking water BADLY. Was topping up every 70 miles.

General Comments:

Owned 3 months. Did huge mileage with no servicing in this old diesel. Amazing economy - i.e. about 70MPG.

Simple - power steering wasn't present so it was a monster to park and heavy to drive, but I knew that before I bought it.

Slow. Sluggish! But hey 70MPG!

Bought for £400. Sold £350 with gubbed head gasket.

1996 Peugeot 106 Aztec Si 1.4

Summary:

Quality

General Comments:

This car handles immensely. It's great for B road blasting on the way to work.

It's rapid off the line as well. I've left many cars for dead at the lights.

1996 Peugeot 106 escapade 1.1

Summary:

A little mean machine!!!

Faults:

Firstly the can belt made lots of nose and needed replacing.

The clutch then started to drag after 90,000 miles.

Had many problems with exhaust emssions test in every MOT examination.

General Comments:

I've not had any major problems with the car since I've had it over three years or been stranded to breakdown.

I have put a peco back box exhaust on it and gives extra torque now and again.

With added 15 inch alloys which gives better handling, but it has hard steering and can be rough to drive.

In all it's a good little car and lot better than the 205 I had!!!

1996 Peugeot 106 XLD 1.5 diesel

Summary:

This car will rock your face... well I love it :)

Faults:

I have had my 106 since October and its due it's next MOT after Xmas. Since buying the car I have noticed an over active ticking coming from the glove box which turned out to be the repeater fuse. (Its 9 years old after all!) Having cleaned it and not replaced it, so far its been running fine :)

The standard tape/radio was pants.

I took it into my local Peugeot dealer this weekend having found out that the brake lights weren't working. The brake pedal switch had died and its going to be cheap to replace. They even topped up my brake fluid and I'm due to pick it up tonight :)

Other than that, nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

I love this car. Being my first motor it's naturally my pride and joy. I learnt to drive in a 2005 1.4 HDI 206 so I was expecting this car to be roughly the same in speed if not a little less (not being the new HDI engine)

However I was pleased to find it more responsive than the 206 and it still handles excellently even without power steering.

I was worried before test driving this car because many reviews and mats who have owned 106's in the past have said tht they are very small inside and the pedals are too close together, meaning that you push both the brake & accelerator together. Not a bit of it. I'm 6ft2" and I have size 11 feet. I've never had trouble with it. I even find it more comfortable than the 206 I learnt in!

I've added a £160 head unit had links up my mp3 player directly and I was surprised to find that thew standard speakers are ace. I won't be changing them yet!

I've added Lexus lights, debadged it, and given it blue seat covers and interior blue neon's for a cool cockpit effect. (the average seats looked a bit lame, but having said that are very hard wearing!)

My car came as standard with a sunroof, a drivers airbag, metallic paint and it looks awsome! All I need now is a set of alloys just to finish the look.

I will definitely have a Peugeot for my next car and although I was contemplating a 306 DTurbo I may go for a 106 GTI instead having loved this one. I won't be parting with it for a long time yet.
