1992 Peugeot 205 Zest 1.1

Summary:

Ideal first car, and even a good second car

Faults:

Kept over heating when I first bought it, was easy fix at the local garage.

Oil filter cracked after about 120,000 miles, again easy fix.

General Comments:

Great little first car, loads of room for taller people, I'm 6ft 2" and have enough room.

Quite a nippy car on acceleration up to about 60mph, handles motorways fine.

My only complaint with this car is the handling on corners, as it's a standard car the suspension is very spongy, taking corners sometimes feels like its going to tip over.

I'm actually now selling it so I can buy a 205 GTi.

1992 Peugeot 205 GRDT 1.8 turbo diesel

Summary:

Fantastic car, very fast when modified

Faults:

Both drive shafts needed replacing after CV gator decided to split.

Rear drum shoes replaced.

General Comments:

This car is a fantastic little car.

The performance as standard is good, not great, but good for a 10 year old car.

However my 205 is not standard, a mongoose stainless steel 3.5" exhaust has been added, k&n induction kit added, and the turbo boost and fuel pump settings have been increased to 18 psi.

This now has the car running 127bhp and 230ib of torque, the car now does 0-60 mph in a genuine proved 8.02 seconds with wheel spin in both 1st and 2nd gear.

The car has been very reliable, never let me down except the gators, engine is smooth and the throttle response now is amazing after the modification.

Not only is it quicker than a 205 G T i now, but it is a lot more economical.

I would recommend a 205 to people, but you must look for a good one, they rust easily and if you buy a poor one it will fail you.

Great car.

1992 Peugeot 205 Rallye 1.4

Summary:

An under estimated little hot hatch!

Faults:

The car had a bit trouble accepting petrol, but this was soon fixed when I fitted a new chrome, locking petrol cap.

I got the car with 15inch alloys which rubbed the rear wheel arches if I had any passengers. I upgraded the shocks to gas ones and now I have no problems.

General Comments:

This car has got me some real attention, some bad due to its large tail noisy tail pipe and yellow paint, but mostly good. I have owned it for six years and have loved it dearly. Now I feel its time someone else got to drive it.

It has full service history, tax, mot, cat2 immobilizer and alarm and I only want offers around £1000.

1992 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9

Summary:

WOW!

Faults:

In the time I owned it the only thing that spoiled an unblemished record was the bush that collapsed in the off side rear suspension arm, but I think this was the cars way of protesting at being put up for sale! Oh and I had to put a handbrake cable on it.

General Comments:

What a car, the example I owned was exceptional. It had a massive service history, a lot of it from Skip Brown Peugeot specialists. It also had receipts for over £5000 for engine, suspension and brake modifications. No daft body kits or stickers, the only external mod was a genuine Peugeot boot spoiler and a set of 16 inch alloys. Quite simply this is one of the quickest point to point cars I have ever driven. A work colleague purchased £13000 worth of Renault Clio 172 cup and was gutted when my £1500 Pug chewed him up and spat him out. I know somebody previously had thrown a lot of cash at this car, but I didn't, look and buy carefully and you won't go far wrong. £1500 bought me an immaculate, devastatingly quick and very reliable car. Only the growing mileage made me sell it and I sold it for more money than I paid for it.
