1995 Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras 1.1 litre petrol

Summary:

Fantastic cheap first time car (apart from road tax)

Faults:

Lazy starter motor, seems weather dependent. Starts better in warmer weather.

Replaced offside driveshaft at 90,000 miles.

New air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter at 87,000 miles.

General Comments:

As a first time driver and my first car, I love its quirky little ways.

It's always been very nippy. The previous owner also had it for a learner car, and it suffered front end damage, which creased the bonnet and offside wing. The only thing to come from that is now the offside headlight pops out of place every now and again.

The only problem I have with it now is the gear link system has a little pin that keeps falling out, and I`m then unable to change gear. I am not sure what it`s called, but it`s a solid pin about an inch long and 7mm diameter. Unfortunately now the pin escaped grr. Has anyone else had this problem?

1995 Peugeot 205 Style 1.1

Summary:

Cracking car; it's like Strongbow, indescribable

Faults:

This car has been a hand-me-down through my family. Once it has blessed one person, it moves to the next (Pug's version of "Herbie").

So nothing much has gone wrong with the car. My step brother is a plant fitter, so he looked after it at his yard.

The back drum piston has seized a few times, but comes loose, will replace soon, and the rear suspension is well and truly screwed; quite a bit of rust underneath, but what do you expect from a old car!! (I have just painted much of it).

Since I have had it, nothing much has happened, apart from some idiots stabbing my tire and ripping my wing mirror off!!!

General Comments:

I have just passed my test, and this car, even though it only has 1100cc's of power, it's like a rocket. Not much weight to pull. I can just about lift the back end right off the ground, and I am a big lad.

The only thing I hate about this car is the seats; they are quite crap, they move around a lot, and the passenger seat doesn't click back into place when pulled forward (you're driving along, and your passenger gets a fright because it just goes back into place hehehe).

I have put central locking into it, and an alarm and new speakers.

The side trim on the doors is SO easy to take off; a few star screws and it all pops off.

The driver's window can come down very easily, so someone can come along and pull it down when it's is fully up, but the passenger window doesn't. (if anyone knows how to fix this problem without getting a new one or a second hand one, contact me rozzer2000@hotmail.com).

The clutch is a bit severe, but you can get used to.

This car is very good to pull wheel spins (here is some advice; when/if you get alloys for it, just wheel spin everywhere, it's great fun! :D hehehe).

If you have a model that has trim along the back of the boot, using trim wax brings it right out; same with the bumpers. In fact all of the trim, door handles etc.

The body work is immaculate. No rust whatsoever. The wheel arches are spotless. It had been well looked after before it came into the family.

Thanks for reading, it's good to tell people how good this car is :D

If anyone can tell me where the RPM outlet is on their engine, it would very good thanks (e-mail is above).

You want to get yourself a 1.9 GTI. Then you will see rocket.

1995 Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras 1.6 TD

Summary:

Excellent value for money, and sound transport for family and hobbies alike

Faults:

Scheduled replacement of Cam Belt at 75000 miles.

Fuel Injector manifold burst at 80000 miles

Brakes replaced at 85000.

Interior fabric for Mardi Gras has worn very well, and looked like new on selling this month.

Only obvious sign of age is a worn steering wheel, and the rather dated styling.

General Comments:

Having owned this 205 TD for 8 years - it has been excellent in reliability and utility: I regularly tow sailing dinghies, and carry lots of sailing gear around the country for which the towing power, space and handling are excellent. Motorway performance with the TD and five speed gear box proves just right for overtaking and cruising at 80 ish...

1995 Peugeot 205 Junior 1.1i

Summary:

Modern looks and build for less

Faults:

Most things wrong were the result of neglect from the previous owner (my Auntie)

Most annoying problem when I got it was an extremely rough/hesitant acceleration. Bought and hooked up a diagnostic computer which showed nothing. Took out the injector and found the injector filter was partially blocking the injector inlet. I think this is an extremely bad build quality problem and would have cost an arm and leg to fix in a garage.

Original suspension was extremely soft. Replaced with OE 1.6 springs and shocks. Worked a treat!

Was broken into with relative ease once, so I have fitted a TOAD alarm.

General Comments:

Extremely good fuel economy compared to my previous car ('89 1.3 Polo)!

New parts are dirt cheap from G.S.F.

Still a very modern looking car that is easily adaptable for I.C.E. and security.

1995 Peugeot 205 Level 2 1.1 injection

Faults:

Driveshaft gaiter split and leaked grease onto brakes, resulting in 'clicking' when releasing pedal.

General Comments:

Brilliant little car, great handling but not enough power when going up hills. Gear change slightly clunky and 2nd gear too short (for my liking). Excellent fuel consumption - I have had nearly 60 mpg!
