2005 Peugeot 307 SW HDI 1.9 90 PS turbo diesel

Summary:

Much better than I thought it would be

Faults:

Two clutches, two alternators, one starter motor, one battery, o/s engine mounting, several wheel bearings, brake discs, and other normal wear and tear items.

General Comments:

My wife uses it as a cab. It has proved remarkably reliable for a mid range car with not the greatest reputation for build quality.

It has done everything we could expect from it and more.

It is reasonably comfortable, plenty of luggage space, and remarkably frugal; it returns about 40 MPG, despite its life as a cab.

2005 Peugeot 307 ST 1.4 petrol

Summary:

It's not durable, and it's poor value for the money you spend

Faults:

1. Changing headlamps 3-4 times a year, same with tail lamps and parking lights (which never happened with my Mitsubishi for 5 years).

2. Something like a "sump pump" leak that emits a fuel smell through the vents, started at 50,000kms

3. One ignition coil gone at 40,000kms.

4. Wheel bearing gone at 60,000kms from the back wheel driver's side.

5. Right tie rod and tie rod end gone at 100,000kms.

6. Brake light switch changed at 90,000kms.

7. At 105,000kms, left front wheel bearing, left drive shaft bearing gone.

This things happened even though the car is being serviced regularly with a Peugeot dealer. I normally run at the speed of 70-90/h with an average of 25,000kms per year.

General Comments:

The engine is strong and frugal.

The road handling of the car is very good, but the suspension is a bit stiff and hard when it hits a hump or a hole.

Sitting position is not so good, and the pedals are mounted so close to each other.

Parts starting to break before 5 years, and that's expensive.

2005 Peugeot 307 CC 2.0

Summary:

Excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable experience

Faults:

Window control button on the driver side for the passenger side is intermittent, not always able to wind up the window.

LED lights for the Alarm/CL/ESP do not always light up.

The 'O' button for the boot doesn't always work.

General Comments:

I have had no real problems with this car.

The problems I listed I can live with.

The engine is excellent.

Not the quickest off the lights, but once you get it into 3rd, it's responsive.

With the roof down and the windows wound down, due to the tilt of the windscreen, I have had conversations, without shouting or raising my voice at 50 mph.

Wind noise is really minimal.

Dashboard is a real eyecatcher.

Haven't opened the bonnet since I got it... I leave that to the garage when I come to service it.

2005 Peugeot 307 HDI S 2.0

Summary:

Very poor for a car 10 months old - not worth th hassle or risk

Faults:

I bought the car from new 10 Months ago. These are the problems I have experience so far;

Faulty electric wing mirror on the driver side.

Faulty CD player - the 6 CD interchanger randomly refuses to play CDs.

2 product recalls.

And, the most recent and more serious of the problems is ongoing. 6 weeks ago a 'Depollution System Faulty' message appeared on the dash. I took it to a local dealership who after 2 weeks, lots of testing and replacing several parts (after seemingly fixing the problem, they took it for a testdrive and the fault returned) they told me the problem was sorted after replacing the turbo.

2 weeks later the same fault appeared on the dash and so back it went to the dealership who again replaced the turbo and told me the problem was fixed. yesterday, 2 weeks on driving from the south cost to the midlands - at the start of the journey the car was far from running smoothly and progressively got worse throughout the journey - severly jumping around 2000 - 2500 revs. after 200 miles the 'depollution' fault again appeared on the dash and the car then went into 'preservation' mode and now won't go above 60 mph - not great for a car supposedly 2.0L 136 BHP - looks like another trip back to the dealers - Not at all happy. Will definitely never ever buy a Peugeot again and will certainly never recommend one. It's just not worth the risk.

You told us nothing about the car, other than the service report. It is too bad you had such bad luck with the electrics, but what about the rest of the car? did you like the seats? are they supportive, what about the steering? the feel of the car on motorways, country lanes, engine noise, etc. I mean this cat is sold worldwide and I am considering buying one, I hope my local dealer knows more about electrics.

I see from your comments that you are having running problems. Have they found the problem with it yet, as I have the same problem with my car.

Many thanks.

It's a typical Peugeot 307 faults. Same problems with my 307 ST 2005 model. Avoid it if you can.
