1994 Peugeot 605 2.0 SVTi 2.0 turbo petrol

Summary:

A nightmarish experience

Faults:

In cold weather the engine would often stall when I selected "Drive" with the automatic gearbox. Sometimes it would take a while to restart the car. The car was sent for diagnostic testing, but no faults were found as the mechanics could not replicate the fault. I don't know to this day what caused this problem, but it was very frustrating.

Electric sunroof didn't work.

ABS pump once came on when the car was parked and wouldn't stop. It had to be disabled.

Air conditioning compressor wasn't working.

General Comments:

This was our second 605 which we thought would be an improvement on the old one as it was had a much lower mileage and appeared to have been well looked after. How wrong we were!

Good points first... A very nice car to drive with excellent ride and handling. Great smooth automatic gearbox. Extremely comfortable and spacious with a decent sized boot. This is what tempted us to buy another one.

However, it appears we got a lemon. Reliability was pretty poor. In winter it was touch and go whether it would run OK. The electrics in these cars are terrible.

We cut are losses and traded it in.

1994 Peugeot 605 sv 3.0 petrol/lpg

Summary:

A ten year old 3.0l v6 £30000 car for £700 a bargain not to be sniffed at

Faults:

Electrical mostly e.g. interior lights motors for the electrical seat adjustment and radio.

I also have had problems with the on-board computer for the fuel consumption, but this is down to me converting the car to run on LPG which leaves the engine management confused on what the car is running on.

General Comments:

There is no doubt in my mind the biggest problem with Peugeot`s flagship 605 is the electrics

The interior is second to none with full leather and walnut trim

The V6 sounds sweet as you put it through its paces

The downfall is the 16 mile to the gallon, but the LPG conversion has made that a bit easier to live with!

What the car does lack is air-con sitting on leather seats on a hot day in heavy traffic leaves you feeling like you wet yourself :O (

1994 Peugeot 605 SVDT 2.1 TD

Summary:

A Superb Car for very little money

Faults:

Mirror Electrics.

General Comments:

This Car and Model must surely be one of the worlds most underrated vehicles, all the luxury and comfort of a big vehicle at a very low cost to buy.

The car runs and steers as if on rails, and the transmission is superb and a very easy car to drive completely.

It has been giving about 45 MPG so far in our ownership which for such a big vehicle is amazing.

I would certainly recommend anyone who wants a larger vehicle to think seriously about owning one.

Having had 3 of these models since, the ONLY thing that I have found is that the Transmission can fail at around 120,000 miles so please whatever you do do Change the Oil!!! Regularly.
