1981 Renault 5 GTL 1.1 petrol

Summary:

An economy car, but with the performance of a milk-float

Faults:

OK, where to start?

When I first got it I put on new shocks, new front brakes, new rear suspension, and had some welding done.

Since then the head gasket has blown, then the big end went, then the head gasket blew again.

New petrol tank due to the old one rotting, new exhaust, 2 new radiators, and aerial, oh yeah and some wipers.

General Comments:

On the plus side surprisingly it's spacious in the front, comfortable and the engine is fairly quiet (as long as the exhaust is in one piece).

However it handles like crap, is on a par with a Panda 750cc performance wise - and the heater never worked.

If you can drive this car you can drive anything - it's a nightmare to get used to but when you do you've never seen anything slide round corners like this baby. Awful car but, it was great fun!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
