2000 Renault Clio S 1.4

Faults:

The tape deck failed within a month, but it was a blessing as I upgraded to a CD player.

General Comments:

I really like this car. I think it looks great, has a good spec and an attractive and well thought interior.

Bad points? Nothing serious, the white dials aren't that easy to read in twilight and perhaps the steering "feel" could be improved a little bit. Also, I wasn't that impressed to find they now come with a 3 year warranty less than 4 months after I got mine.

My brother has a Clio S and it is also fantastic. he has a dial that makes the dash display lights brighter or duller and I am sure all have them. have a look.

2000 Renault Clio Sport 172 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Fun and Fear rolled into one!!

Faults:

Stereo distorts slightly above volume level 28 - my ears are bleeding by then though!

General Comments:

Absolutely superb. The first few days I had it I followed the manufacturer's guide to keep it below 3500 rpm, and found it to be merely "nice" to drive, and the engine hinted at being pretty powerful. That couldn't last of course, and as soon as I started to drive it a little more enthusiastically, I was rewarded with outrageous performance and power. I have read a lot of reviews that don't rate the steering and handling, but I don't agree - I think it is very responsive, and sticks to the road.

Interior is very well designed, very comfortable, especially the seats.

I had a 2L Golf GTi before this, and the difference between the two almost makes me laugh with contempt for the Golf.

Not a family car, and not one to take more than one passenger over long distances, as it is quite small, but then what would you expect from a hatchback?

Yeah I have to agree. It's not perfect - the handling for instance is not as balanced as my old 306 GTI-6, and the steering is nowhere near as communicative. It's also appallingly built.

However, the 172 is just so damn fast, it makes you giggle like an idiot. For that alone, it's worthy of respect. A great little car that feels truly exciting - rare in this day and age.

2000 Renault Clio Sport 172 2.0 16v VVT

Summary:

Scorchingly fast but docile too

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

The car is super comfy inside and mean looking from the outside. The engine is a beauty that pulls strongly at normal revs and goes berserk between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm. Floor it in second and it becomes obvious that this is a heck of a lot of power for a tiny FWD car, and I love it!
