1996 Renault Espace Alise 2.0 petrol

Summary:

An extremely comfortable and reliable vehicle that I have enjoyed owning

Faults:

Driver's side electric window failed at 125,000 miles.

Radiator burst at 129,000 miles.

One driveshaft replaced at 75,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is so reliable as to be almost unbelievable.

It has handled well from day 1 and after 140,000 miles the engine still runs sweetly.

I am still using the original engine, clutch and gearbox.

The suspension is beginning to feel tired and has just started to knock a bit.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

As the owner of this vehicle, would like it known that it is now four months since this car was towed to the garage. Our Espace has not moved one inch in that time and Renault have informed us that the part is still not available and cannot even advise of a delivery date. Cannot say this loud enough - DO NOT EVEN CONTEMPLATE BUYING A RENAULT!!!

Follow up to the original review dated 13th Aug 01.

Car broke down in June 2001, needing a new drive flange. Has taken Renault exactly SIX months to supply this part and the car is only 5 years old! Only a letter to the Managing Director himself actually got the part delivered, all previous contact having been ignored.

In the two years we have owned this car, it has cost £7000 in repairs.

WE WILL NEVER, EVER BUY A RENAULT AGAIN.
