2001 Renault Megane Dynamique + 1.6

Summary:

Apart from the annoying faults, an excellent car

Faults:

Vibration noise from dashboard. After 3 visits to Dealer vibration not repaired. Repaired on 4th visit after writing to Renault Customer Services.

2 coils replaced within 24000 miles, after writing to Renault Customer Services remaining two coils replaced by dealer. Further coil replaced July 2005, 5 coils replaced so far - 48000 miles, would appear to be an annual event.

Leather steering wheel replaced by Dealer after 24000 miles due to leather disintegrating.

Rear spoiler replaced by dealer after 2 years due to bubbling paintwork.

General Comments:

Fuel consumption for a 1600cc engine good at average of 41 miles per gallon.

Performance very good, excellent acceleration in all gears.

Comfort excellent, for a 6 footer I personally find accessing the car a bit tight due to the small front doors.

Interior finish first class.

2001 Renault Megane coupe privelege + 1.6i 16v

Summary:

Good overall motor

Faults:

All four coils have had to be replaced,

One decided to go faulty and in all fairness to Renault they replaced all four!

Luckily the car was still under warranty as this has since come to my attention that a designer fault is to blame.

Bad paint job which Renault tried to say was my fault even though I had only had the car 2 days.

General Comments:

Good performance for a 1.6, Very comfortable, Excellent at handling.

Fair play to Renault, all 4 coils were replaced on my car, not under warranty, but they didn't charge me a penny as it was a manufacturers defect.

Got my Renault Megane Coupe Dynamique + in January 2005, which is a 2001 model, absolute fantastic car, this is my third Renault, but first Megane, my only gripe is that there seems to be an intermitten problem when starting the car, the engine dosn't want to turn so it is hit and miss. This has been going on for the last 6 weeks, took it back to the dealer, but as it always started for them they couldn't find a fault. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem.

2001 Renault Megane Expression 1.4 / 16v

Summary:

A good day to day solid car

Faults:

Water seeping into the front passenger well 5,000 miles soaking carpets. Has been into the Main Dealers (Darlington) three times up to now, but they seem incapable of fixing the fault. Wet carpets now starting to make the inside of the car smell. Having read up on Meganes, this water seepage seems to be a common fault.

1 Coil stopped working 9,000 miles.

Font passenger seat belt twisted. Main dealers have had two tries to rectify.

General Comments:

It is basically a reliable, comfortable car, but quality control would appear to be non existant. Are main dealers really Renault trained?

I have just found a solution to my water leak into the drivers side floor well. After heavy rain the water was collecting behind the plastic air vent in the engine compartment and overflowing inside and.down the clutch pedal. I simply made a soak away in the plastic flooding airvent inside the engine compartment.

2001 Renault Megane Sport 1.6 16v petrol

Summary:

Punchy and practical

Faults:

No mechanical problems as yet.

General Comments:

I've had my Megane Sport for just over one year now and don't really have any complaints.

Very pleased with the engine. It's got some decent low-down poke, but also quite economical.

Handling is fairly dull - a bit too much body roll, but the brakes (ABS) are good.

Interior fairly spartan, but at the price it's a lot of car for the money, and I was more interested in getting a decent engine. No air con which is a bummer.

Invested an extra couple of hundred quid for the 6 CD autochanger - well worth it, and the stereo is MUCH better than the one in my Xsara Picasso.

We bought ours for just under 9k from Arnold Clark, Paisley. Nice, friendly sales guys, but (a familiar story with most garages) there's room for improvement in the service/repairs dept.

Replace the shocks, with gas shocks - and you should find the handling of the car is more precise.
