1994 Rover - Austin 600 620i 2.0i 16v

Summary:

A alternative to BMW without a doubt

Faults:

The tappet are tapping so I took it to a garage and they said its quite normal on these cars if anyone can confirm this let me know.

The manifold is blowing.

And the car has slight rust around the rear arch.

General Comments:

This car is a amazing car I always stayed clear of rover, but when I seen and drove a 620i I just had to buy it the car will leave most car standing at lights.

The car is very good on the motorway and not bad on juice the car is extreamly comfortable and look amazing by just adding alloys.

With the question regarding tappet noise you will find that it is not the tappets, but piston slap (Honda engine).

This is quite normal and will run like this for the life of the vehicle.

Ex Rover Technical support engineer.

1994 Rover - Austin 600 620i 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Poor man's BMW-esque commuter

Faults:

Front driver's window slipped off the regulator. Had to get it put back on and rubber lining greased.

General Comments:

Due to its Honda Accord engine/running gears, it is very reliable and I've had no problems with it.

I can't believe how cheap it is to buy these cars.

Not a fast car, but does the job well. Be warned to be uninspired!

Probably has an identity crisis, but Rover has tried to join the middle-executive market (and failed).

1994 Rover - Austin 600 GSi 2.0i

Summary:

Undercover sports car

Faults:

Steering rack has went recently after 116000 miles

Anti-roll bar bushes on the drivers side went which made a loud and embarrassing noise when turning. Although they weren't too expensive to replace.

Drivers side central locking device has gone which means I always have to use the key to open and lock the car.

Rear wheel arch on both sides have started to corrode.

General Comments:

My previous car was a seriously modified XR2i which had about 180bhp, but this car is superb in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

My recorded time of 0-60 is 7.2 seconds, but it can go quicker.

I'm only 18 and have had four seriously fast cars before this one, but I have to say that for comfort, speed and looks this is the best.

A good top speed of 139mph gets anyone going.

Cream leather is the bomb.

This car goes round the Ti in circles in terms of interior.

Braking is excellent.

Engine noise is excellent.

Does anyone know how much bhp a rover 620 GSi has?.

It's hardly a sports car! Fwd and boat-like handling dictate that! You need to get a new watch as the 0-60 time is around 9 seconds for one of these. Your motor has 131bhp, hardly a huge amount for a big, heavy car.

Yes you write about your car like you're only 18! 7 seconds to 60? That's quicker than a BMW 325i & 328i, both of which have almost 70bhp more than your Rover and weigh less-don't think so. Your car's a taxi, not a sports car. They have quite a smooth ride and are good motorway cruisers, but they're no more a sports car than a Volvo 740 is.

1994 Rover - Austin 600 sli 2.0

Summary:

Unfairly underestimated, to the bargain hunters advantage!

Faults:

The brake lights have needed replacing on a few occasions.

The exhaust fell off and obviously needed to be replaced.

The electric aerial never really worked so I bought a new one.

The central locking is currently broken and it needs to be fixed. Strangely this has resulted in my car doors unlocking themselves on occasion. I checked this with my dealer and they confirmed this as a problem with a micro chip on the drivers door.

General Comments:

On the positive side the car is extremely comfortable. The leather seats are great, and the electrics have been very reliable.

I know I will never have a problem overtaking with this car as the acceleration is excellent.

Anyone that has travelled with me in the car has been impressed with it's interior comfort and smooth road handling.

Hi - I wrote the review and the only comment I have to make is to change my dealer rating to a 2 after being totally treated like an idiot by them today.
