1983 Rover - Austin Metro MG 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Great drive, wish I still owned it!

Faults:

Rear suspension collapsed, hydro-gas unit leaked!

Engine started using oil at a rate of 1 litre per 100 miles.

Engine oil leaks like the Exxon Valdez.

Had to sell it on because I thought the engine was about to pack up!

General Comments:

Great little car, my first!

Big comfy seats and a reasonable turn of speed, made it my choice!

Lots of induction roar at 100 mph!

1983 Rover - Austin Metro HLE 1.0

Summary:

An oil truck!

Faults:

Battery died.

Front ball joints had to be changed.

Rear window heater never worked.

Always leaked oil.

General Comments:

Don't buy an old Metro unless it's in top condition. You hear too many noises when driving, and you can never find the problems!

My Metro HLE is 17 years old. I drive 70 miles a day now. It is economical, runs well and usually passes the MOT.

Lovely 'little' motor 'B' registration so expect things to go wrong but can usually pick up spares from scrap yards. My 1.3 pulls my 12'caravan! Doesn't like hills much!

1983 Rover - Austin Metro L 1.3

Summary:

Very cheap and affordable, quiet interior and doesn't rattle like other models

Faults:

It would not start on cold mornings. Everything else is just perfect!

General Comments:

Excellent running costs.

Excellent reliability.

Great performance, very very quick and fast even though its engine size is small. Can cope with a motorway very easily.

Very spacious in the back and in the front. I am not joking but it is far more spacious than a Mercedes 190! Extremely quiet inside but a little bit noisy outside.

OVERALL = 9/10

Not a bad first car, but I love it as it is souped up!
