1993 Rover - Austin Montego DLX 2.0 TD

Summary:

Cheap way to move lots of stuff

Faults:

Roll-bar bush - £10.

Head gasket - £38 (did belt at same time)

Central locking doesn't like the damp.

General Comments:

Slow off the mark unless you wind it up and slip the clutch. Plenty of power once the turbo gets going though.

Two folding seats in the boot are handy for those times when the kids' friends want to come too.

Far more internal space than modern equivalents.

Nearly 60mpg on long smooth runs.

Suits my rather large and tall frame.

1993 Rover - Austin Montego LX 2.0 turbo

Summary:

If you can handle the rust..unbeatable

Faults:

Tailgate rusted through on the hinges and the bottom.

Both rear wheel arches rusted.

All four corners of the sills rusted.

General Comments:

It pulls like a train, other than general wear and tear the motor has been faultless, its taken two adults and four kids to the south of France TWICE!! I change the oil/filter regularly, for £800 show me a better car!

Roomy, comfortable, economical and reliable.

1993 Rover - Austin Montego Countryman 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

What a work horse!!!

Faults:

Drivers side wheel bearing replaced at 100,000 miles. Drivers side c. v joint was replaced around 5,000 miles after that.

General Comments:

I bought the car for £600.

It has to be the cheapest seven seater money can buy.

Plenty of power & torque.

Upholstery is a bit bland, yet quite comfortable.

Very good on fuel.

The body work in this car's down fall.

You'll either get a good one, or you won't.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I picked up a K plate for £250 tax & mot off a farmer a reliable workhorse. I`ve had to replace a wheel bearing (pass. front) but it is a cracking find. Bodywork as ever a little rusty, but the cars got character and pokey for a diesel of that age. Wicked cheap as chips motor.
