2006 smart forfour passion 1.5cdi

Summary:

Bomb proof, reliable fun car that is cheap to run

Faults:

Very little. Clutch replaced which is a big job as the engine has to come out. Door lock failed on driver's door. Problems with remote key. Original springs, shocks and exhaust!

General Comments:

Brilliant! Fun to drive, reliable, small but adaptable good space inside and very cheap to run. 23p per mile over life of the car (our ownership).

Unbelievable torque pulling up most hills in 5th. Gear selection now a bit sloppy and if 3rd selected rather than first it will still pull away.

Never a issues at annual MOT other than maybe a bulb. Bodywork scuffed by car park damage and some vandalism, but only superficial due to plastic panels. Hit up the rear by a Transit which suffered catastrophic damage (front pushed in and radiator gone) with no damage to the Forfour confirmed after long inspection by a main dealer. So tough, very tough.

After 168k of hard miles looks scruffy with damage/wear and tear to the driver's seat, but still does the job.

Such a shame it had a short run of production and the new Forfour is just an extended Fortwo and not a real car.

2005 smart forfour Passion 1.1

Summary:

Try one and buy one.. it's brilliant!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing!

General Comments:

This is a great little car! It has an individuality and character missing from more mainstream and run of the mill small hatchbacks.

The performance from the little 3 cylinder engine is very impressive, helped no doubt by the light weight of the car. It has a very addictive engine note too.

This car comes packed with kit... all round disc brakes with ABS and esp, traction control (yes on a 1.1!) air con, electric power steering, alloys, panoramic roof and the list goes on!

The two colour mix of a silver 'Tridion' frame and flame red 'plastic' body panels looks very distinctive and stylish. The interior too is a very pleasant place to spend time.

It really puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, and it has a high 'cool' factor, with people often asking what it is and what it's like to own/drive.

I am nonplussed as to why a) it didn't sell better b) MB/DC pulled the plug. Try one and buy one... I did and I LOVE IT!
