2006 Suzuki Ignis GL 5-door 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Practical and good value for money

Faults:

Nothing yet (touch wood), but again it is just a year old car. Will update if anything goes wrong afterwards :)

General Comments:

The ground clearance is amazing. I sometimes do take it to rough terrains without any problem!

The driver's seat is height adjustable. Also slides and adjusts for lumber. Slight leaning forward during parking makes the bonnet visible.

The inside is cool. Speedo and tachometer has white dials. The instrument panel glows red on dark. The illumination intensity of dials can be controlled. The central console displays time, outside temperature, instant fuel consumption and radio/CD info. The mirrors are internally adjustable. 6 speakers Blaupunkt CD/Radio comes as standard.

Along with front and side airbags. Remote central locking is also standard. There is Electronic Power steering as well. However, no AC on this model.

The rear seats have 60/40 split with adjustable lumber and headrests. Came with full size spare wheel. Full height boot is large enough for a family's holiday luggage.

Engine delivers 118 Nm torque and 69 kW (94 HP) power. It's a chain cam driven 4-cylinder 1.3L M13A type engine. Fuel economy varies from 15-20 km/L.

Ride quality is solid for a small car. The car travels at 130-140 km/h without much noise, either from the engine or wind. Handling is nippy. Body roll during cornering is minimal.

But suspension is quite firm, and on bad roads, each jerk is transferred to the passenger cabin.

On the negatives sides so far - The interior light (front) can't be switched off completely. It always lights when a door is opened. Though rear interior light has this feature.

There is no way to check windscreen washer level! You need to fill the container to the brim.

Fuel consumption could have been better. The fuel warning light comes up quite quickly even when the needle didn't reach the end mark.

If you're getting 15-20 km per litre, there's not much wrong with the fuel consumption!

2006 Suzuki Ignis 1.5 GLX 4Grip 1.5 petrol

Summary:

Overlooked little 4x4

Faults:

Nothing - touch wood!

General Comments:

Reliable - I recently covered over 1000 miles on a trip to Scotland and not so much as a rattle or squeak.

Four-wheel drive makes it reassuring in the wet and taking corners.

Economy a little disappointing as I'm averaging around 35mpg.

Performance not exactly earth-shattering, but it keeps up with traffic around town and on the open road.

Comfortable and relatively quiet.

Nice sound from the 6-speaker CD/radio.

Interior could do with a little colour (apart from the garish red of the controls at night!).

You can turn the display brightness down, which helps somewhat - thumbwheel switch on the right hand side of the fascia.

You must have a low expectation of your car if you think the car is comfortable with that ride quality. Stereo speakers are atrocious quality too!

You have covered 1535 miles so far - please would you write another report at 10,000 miles. By then the the novelty of this car will probably have worn off, and you may well be sick of the poor economy, lack of comfort and frustrating performance.

I don't wish to slate this model - but I can't help it - it is so flawed. Sorry!
