2017 Suzuki Vitara L 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Race to the bottom - and Suzuki have won

Faults:

The car leaked water into the passenger compartment from the roof. Generally it gave the impression of being cheaply made.

The fuel economy computer gave a reading of over 50MPG, but doing our own calculations, it was in the low 40s always.

The dealer told us it was made in Japan, but we discovered it was actually made in Hungary.

General Comments:

Very poor quality. Would not recommend anyone to buy one.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

It is a cheap car after all and it is a gasoline automatic. You cannot expect great fit and finish from such a cheap car. Fuel consumption looks normal.

Yes. Your dealer greatly deceived you with a great deception. Suzuki builds the Vitara in Hungary. Good reliability though. I reckon that low 40 MPG isn't too bad for a 1.6 auto SUV.

When I had that engine in a 2009 SX4, the quoted mixed-use MPG was 37-38, and it did that. So if you were getting over 40, I'd say that was pretty fair.
