2006 Toyota Avensis T3s 1.8

Summary:

Very spacious, comfortable car and good fuel economy

Faults:

Oil pressure switch.

General Comments:

Absolutely love this car, it's a very comfortable drive.

This is my second Toyota car, the first being a Corolla which was also a great car.

My Avensis is very good on fuel economy and is a very roomy car, with loads of leg room for rear passengers. Also has a good sound system. Boot space is plentiful with loads of room.

2006 Toyota Avensis D4D 2.0 diesel

Summary:

Rock solid reliable, if a bit dull

Faults:

The CD player has gone faulty. Radio still works fine.

General Comments:

The car has been totally reliable. I have owned it since April 2006 and have used it as a taxi. In this time I have changed the tyre's three times and the brakes three times. Nothing else except for the oil and filter every 15000km. There is 170,000km on the car and no problems except for the CD player failed at 120,000km. Toyota have refused to fix because the car is out of warranty.

The interior is too black and the seats get very tatty or dirty. Ideally this car would be better if the seats were leather and if there was an automatic available with the diesel engine. The passenger space is excellent for use as a taxi and the boot is plenty big enough for suitcases. The drive is fine, but the plastics on the steering wheel and gear lever need to be a lot softer as this is causing a repetitive strain injury on my hands, as I do 90,000kms per year.

There are certainly better cars out there for driving experience, but I know I will buy Toyota again because of the low cost of ownership. Nothing has gone wrong except for a faulty CD player.

I now have 304,000KMS and had a problem last month with the clutch pedal going to the floor and staying there. A fluid leak in the slave cylinder was the cause and cost €200 to fix and a morning off the road. The car is on the same clutch since new. Only service parts get replaced like filters and brake pads. Great car.

Now have 320,000kms. One of the front wheel bearings failed and cost €200 to replace. Otherwise very satisfied with the reliability of the car.

The 1.6 petrol I think was better choice for city taxi guy. The d4d was useless around the city.
