1994 Vauxhall Frontera 2.3

Summary:

Great Family hauler, will go for miles

Faults:

When I got it serviced last year all the under carriage was rusted. I had to get that fixed. Expensive.

Both the rear outer door handles fell off and left me with a 2 door estate!

The drivers side electric window fell out of the the door when I rolled it down one summers day. Permanant air conditioning!

The Alternator belt snapped on the motorway and it almost seized my engine up.

Battery went dead at the airport. I had to get AA in the car park to re charge the Jeep.

The turbo broke all the time.

General Comments:

The Frontera I had was spotless, but Everything fails or breaks off eventually.

For a 1994 it has a sun roof, electric windows and it was fierce comfortable.

It is desperate going up hills, of any steepness...

Very safe though, with its steel bull bar and alarm.

It cost last year €80 per week on diesel which was terrible. The Dash is grand and very well laid out, but even for a Jeep potholes on the road WILL destroy everything that uses electricity in the car, FACT. Good on bends, but acceleration is a slow as a wet sponge. Suspension is very bouncy. I have 6 in my family and we have often fitted 7 or 8 adults into the Jeep with minimal irritation. Large boot. and the spare wheel was never used in the full 12 years!

1994 Vauxhall Frontera sport i 2.0

Summary:

At this moment I would say fair

Faults:

Just bought a 1994 swb frontera, drove it back 180 miles, but had serious problems on motorway. when driving about 50 mph the vehicle swerves all over. is this because of rear wheel drive? does anybody know how I can solve this?

General Comments:

Apart from the mentioned problem... i think the frontera is good comfortable motor.

1994 Vauxhall Frontera sport 2.0i

Summary:

Brilliant, cheap, tough, reliable, but slow

Faults:

Water pump blew about 2 miles after I bought the car.

That's it!!

General Comments:

Apart from the blown water pump which cost a whole £11 to fix this car has been bullet proof. Acceleration is not one of its strong points, but it will happily cruise at 85-90mph all day long.

Comfort is pretty good, petrol consumption averages 30 mpg and shes solidly built although there are few squeaks here and there, but then, she is 12 years old!! and, for a cheap car makes a SUPERB off-roader despite what others may say.. Highlights for me have to be towing 2 land-rover 90's out of some serious mud on a pay and play day - land-rovers which earlier in the day scorned my poor little fronty - HA!

1994 Vauxhall Frontera sport 4x4 2.0I

Summary:

OK for 4x4 but I also have a calibra for speed

Faults:

Gaskets blow in every place leaking oil.

Seats have very bad wear all round.

Soft top falling to bits.

Rusting all round.

Make squeaky sounds on bumps.

General Comments:

Drives like it has a mind of its own swaying left and right and feels like your on a bus.

Feels like its going to tip on bends.

Lacks speed and kills juice.

However it is a 4x4 and you feel king of the road when your driving one.

1994 Vauxhall Frontera Sport 1.9i

Summary:

Would like to try a younger model, seems very slow, but could be age and high miles

Faults:

It had fuel starvation so the dealer replaced the filter. The drivers electric window was about to fall out so they had it back to repair the mechanism. Then it had a petrol leak all over my drive.

General Comments:

The car seems really slow for a 2.0 injection.

Very costly I only get 27 miles to the gallon does anyone know if that's correct?

The steering wheel is very loose not sure if its the wheels that need balancing or are they just like that not having owned one before I am unsure.

Of course this last comment comes from probably a Land Rover owner! Now use your eyes, use your common sense, and read the reviews here. See the numbers of smiley faces. Now go to the Freelander reports and see the comments there! Enough said?

Yes, the Sport does about 28 MPG. Try a new set of twin electrode plugs, a new air filter, a change of oil and filter. The fuel filter has been changed. Also make sure you get the cambelt changed as soon as possible. You'll then have a great reliable car, and believe me, a capable offroader too.

Bought a 1994 Frontera Sport and we drove from Scotland to Poland and back over seeing son in Krakow. I replaced front shocks when I returned as the "clatter" from the front -end convinced me I had done the shocks in - or should I say the Polish roads. No change same thumping noise. Help! is this just a feature of the vehicle? and how do you engage 4 wheel drive or know when it is disengaged.

Ashamed of my lack of knowledge and endeavour,

I have a 1996 2liter petrol Vauxhall Frontera Sport,

After rain it is holding water in the removable roof. This water does not get in to the vehicle, but sloshes around in the roof. Can anyone tell me how this water is getting in. I have removed it through two drain holes in the rubbers, but it comes back after it rains There is no hole in the roof.

Thank You.
