1985 Vauxhall Senator I Auto 3.0i petrol

Summary:

A fast reliable luxury car

Faults:

The day after purchase the oil sump cracked after I accidentally aired the car over a humpback bridge, the repair cost £170.

The central locking only locks from passenger side now and instrument panel bulbs had to be replaced.

Beware a new exhaust will set you back £250 - £300!

The driver's electric window sticks but I decided not to get this fixed as a new motor for it is very expensive.

General Comments:

This car has been totally reliable and has never left me stranded. It has superb mid range power which is good for overtaking and motorway driving.

The big problem with one of these is dealer service. They know nothing about the car and don't stock any parts (except brake pads and wear and tear items - and strangely front wheel bearings?) and cannot offer any practical advice at all.

1985 Vauxhall Senator 3.0i petrol

Summary:

Cheap, high performance luxury

Faults:

Power steering failed and drivers electric window sticks, and the usual wear and tear - brake pads etc.

General Comments:

Very cheap to buy with explosive overtaking power but eye watering running costs, is capable of towing very heavy loads, I used it to tow a Jag on a hydraulic lift trailer!
