2011 Volkswagen Golf GT 2.0 TDi

Summary:

A little expensive, but worth it

Faults:

Really nothing much in the year I have had it. Dealer gave the car a full service and MOT upon purchase, and according to the history it is a looked after car.

General Comments:

As my first car I paid a little more than I would have liked for an older Golf, and the insurance on the 2.0 TDi is obviously higher than that of the 1.6 TDi and smaller petrol's, but let me tell you it is worth it!

This car is great to drive. Has around 138 bhp, good for a smaller hatchback car. The higher insurance I pay is offset with lower tax and 57 mpg, so it can otherwise be reasonable to run this car.

I tell you for a 2011 car it looks and feels very modern. The car handles very sharp and I like driving it, every journey has been a pleasure so far. GT edition has electric everything and very comfortable sporty seats that hold you well in corners.

Overall I would recommend this car to anyone, although more expensive to run than an Vauxhall Astra or Ford Focus, the VW Golf is just a more rounded car. Buying used just make sure you get a good one, and make sure at higher mileage the cam-belt is changed also as well as full servicing.

2011 Volkswagen Golf TSi S 1.2 petrol

Summary:

Boring daily driver, but it's OK

Faults:

Nothing serious or expensive, but general servicing and repairs to wear and tear parts could be cheaper; I have since found a cheaper garage, but there is no getting around VW part cost sometimes.

General Comments:

The only thing that stands out about this Golf is the fact it is bright red and has black alloy wheels; interior is also very smart looking. It is a sharp looking car for 11 years old.

S model is very basic, expect electric windows and not much more. But it is all nice and functional and non distracting. Seats are comfortable.

TSi 1.2 petrol engine is slow, but cheap enough to insure and you will see close to 50 mpg on average - very good for petrol. My previous Ford Focus struggled for that figure and it was a diesel!

Can't complain too much - I have had it a long time and it has never let me down.
