2010 Volkswagen Passat Highline Plus 2.0 TDi

Summary:

Nice

Faults:

I service the car by the book and have had many wear and tear parts replaced expected of mileage; the only expensive issue was the clutch needed replaced. Air con also needs re-gassed, not going to bother as we are going into autumn/winter.

Cosmetically the car is a little rougher now, very small rust spots on arches, but it is 12 years old. On the inside the leather has held up very well, no rips or tears, very durable quality material.

General Comments:

My Passat in black looks very nice and the Highline spec is very well appointed. I really like this car, but will be honest in this review about its faults.

It has been my daily driver for 7 years and apart from that clutch replacement, there has been no expensive problems. The car in general is a little more expensive to maintain however than a similar rival car like a Vauxhall Insignia or Ford Mondeo, but the VW Passat is worth it in my opinion, just a smoother more refined car.

VW main dealers are useless and not interested in older cars (in my opinion/experience) so find a local garage and this car will be reasonable to take care of in these tough financial times.

This generation Passat (B6 I think) 2005 - 2010 is the best looks wise in my opinion, very smart in dark colours, and the interior is just beautiful. Alloy wheels look great and are easy to keep clean. Many complain about the electronic handbrake - and I agree, a lever is better, but I have had the car so long I am used to it now. The leather is very comfortable and materials feel top quality. Lots of space and very quiet. One of the most comfortable cars I have ever had.

2.0 TDi is your typical diesel, not very fast but good enough for daily driving. Expect to see over 50 mpg if you cruise slowly. Gear change is good and the car handles very well.

In short if you are after a spacious family/executive car, and only have a few grand to spend, the Passat from this time period should be on your list of cars to take a look at. Buy a looked after one and you should be onto a winner.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
