2018 Volkswagen T-Roc EVO SEL 1.5 TSi

Summary:

Average at best

Faults:

Seems a bit rough and jerky when cold, but nothing excessive. Heard this was a common issue on earlier 1.5 TSi engines, but was solved by dealer software update, contacted dealer but they could not tell me if my car had been fixed or affected. I am leaving it for now as when warm the car is fine.

General Comments:

Well the T-Roc is a sharp looking SUV from VW. I do like the looks and performance.

It's a shame the rest of the car is so dull. The ride is also very harsh, not comfortable at all, surprising for a modern vehicle.

But it is spacious and the interior has a quality feel. Lovely blue exterior paint.

Apart from rapid acceleration, the car is dull to drive. I should have gone for a diesel, I do not trust this petrol 1.5 TSi unit long term after hearing about the problems they have. It also struggles for around 40 mpg yet the official figures claim nearer 50 mpg.

Overall just disappointed, I cannot recommend this car to anyone, it is nothing special and it was expensive to buy, should have been better for the money.

2018 Volkswagen T-Roc TSi EVO SE 1.5 petrol

Summary:

OK!

Faults:

I have had the car two years with no issues. Just services and wear and tear items. If I am being really picky - there is a little bit of interior trim rattle now, and the air con is weaker now. Nothing out of the ordinary for a seven year old car.

General Comments:

The T-Roc is a decent modern solid car if you just need reliability and comfort. I have found this car to be an excellent workhorse and family vehicle.

My car is white, a 2018 model, SE spec is very nice. Lovely alloy wheels. Interior has the typical VW quality feel and built very well. Materials are high class and have a nice finish. The car is quiet on the go. I could care less about the modern phone connectivity features, but they are there if you need them.

1.5 petrol engine is a good one - it's powerful enough for everyday driving and does a genuine 45 mpg + on petrol with a mix of town/motorway drives. I preferred its quietness and smoothness over the diesel version I test drove before purchase.

It's nothing special, but it's a whole lot better than my previous Ford Kuga which gave me no end of trouble. The T-Roc won't be a car you will remember, but for a modern cross over SUV type vehicle, you could do a lot worse than one of these. Easily one of the best in its class.
