1996 Volvo 940 TD SE 2.4 TD

Summary:

Fantastic - buy one

Faults:

Oil leak from oil sensor at 357,000 miles and major oil leak from c/s. Both repaired at home for pence.

Apart from that she's as good as the day we bought her.

General Comments:

Excellent. Highly recommend buying one.

Surprisingly easy to handle despite size.

Surprisingly fast despite size!

The most comfortable car to drive I have ever had the pleasure of driving.

1996 Volvo 940 CD 2.3 High Pressure turbo

Summary:

Expensive to fuel, ultra reliable, ultimate estate cruiser

Faults:

Rear Window Mechanism went stiff, fixed with silicon spray.

General Comments:

This is the High Pressure Turbo with Auto Gear Box, does the business, but does not deliver stunning acceleration especially from stationary. Handling is a little soft.

Leather seats are comfy for 3-4 hour journeys, but you slide sideways on bends.

Cruise control with Auto box is magic. Auto box is excellent gear shifts seem to be computer controlled for economy or acceleration depending on how heavy footed you are.

Tires are only 205, for such a heavy car 225 to 240 would be better.

Although mine is one of the latest it has very poor quality door trim, around the pop up locks the vinyl has been stretched to reveal hard board underneath.

Interior is a bit dated better to go for the V90 with updated dash.

Fuel consumption is heavy £50.00 to fill up which lasts around 300 miles.

1996 Volvo 940 SE Turbo 2.3iT

Summary:

Great value for money :)

Faults:

Not had a problem yet. It had been maintained very well before I bought it. And is still running smoothly. I hope this will continue into the 100,000 mark. Given the rate it is going, I think it will do this very easily.

General Comments:

This car I personally think was the last of the true Volvos. And under the bonnet the engine is a mighty powerhouse at 190BHP and a 0-60 MPH in 8.7 secs.

It has great performance with the low suspension and the 2.3L HPT Turbo engine, that had been developed by Volvo through the years.
