2006 Mazda 3 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Good choice, but better with a larger engine

Faults:

At around 50K, I had problems with cold starts. I would turn on the car, it would shake violently and then turn off. I turned it back on and it would work without a hitch. The dealer was not able to find the source of the problem, though the problem started to dissipate after they cleaned the fuel injection.

General Comments:

Great car to drive, though I wouldn't recommend the 1.6L engine.

Overall, the car is quite sturdy and handles well.

2005 Mazda 3 V Sport 1.6 Gasoline

Summary:

Great car, though stay clear of the smaller engines

Faults:

Three months after purchasing, the central control screen stopped working. Repaired within minutes by dealer.

General Comments:

The car is well-built however, the small engine is probably its worst character. With a 1.6, you are constantly required to accelerate to maintain high speeds. The 1.6L model is the only model sold in the Middle East.

The interior looks amazing and has all the bells and whistles to keep you entertained.

The sound system could be improved. The speaker positions do not provide adequate surround sound and at moderately high volume levels, you can hear high vibration noises from the doors.

The auto-headlights and auto-wipers are a big plus - adds the luxuries of a high-end model to a very affordable car.

The A/C can be weak at times, but trying to keep the interior cool in grid-lock traffic in 45C heat, a shortcoming is quite understandable.

The car conserves gas, however, having only 4 gears results in a high RPM level (as per Middle East model specification) and greater gas consumption.
