General Comments:

This is a vehicle which has limited run, because it is now discontinued. It has an appeal, as it is rare in that you will not find many in your area. The SSR drives nicely and is heavy, and is not to be mistaken for a SS Camaro.

It is a true boulevard cruiser. It would be comfortable driving down Van Nuys Bld or Hawthorn Blvd in the summer time with the top down. Maybe even going up Pacific Coast Highway as well.

The steering is responsive and has good feedback. The pickup area is also nice when you go to the market. It brings in looks no matter where you go.

Is it practical? Ahh, that's a good question. It only has two seats, so right off the bat it is LIMITED. As a second car maybe it can fulfill its duty, but really it's a pleasure car. It could qualify as the third car IMO. The minus of this vehicle is it has no spare tire space. No space behind the seats of any kind. Tire size is not the same - bigger in the back than the front. Tires are special order.

I figure parts are also not easy to get. If you can get past that, you can enjoy the semi exclusivity of this particular vehicle.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I can think of no reason to purchase a SSR instead of a similar-year Corvette.

Maybe he cannot afford a Corvette. Add a few options, especially a 3LT or 4LT trim, and see. But I agree with you.

The good thing about a Corvette is that they are known to keep people off the couch and out of the doctor's office on weekends.

2006 Chevrolet SSR LT 6.0 Liter LS2 from North America

Summary:

This is a great vehicle if you want good power, good handling, and like to turn heads

Faults:

I have never had any problems with this vehicle.

General Comments:

This vehicle turns a lot of heads. I am always getting compliments on it.

The six speed manual shifts smoothly with 5th & 6th gears both overdrive. The 3.73 axle ratio is not low enough to get this heavy truck moving. It takes a lot of revs in first gear to get it moving without stalling.

The 400 horsepower LS2 motor moves this truck very well for its heavy weight. The brakes and handling are very good for a truck, but it doesn't handle as well as a sports car.

There is no spare tire. And no run flat tires. Just a cheap tire plug kit and air compressor behind the seat.

The retractable hard top is great. The best of both worlds with no noise or leaks. For tall drivers, it is hard to see traffic lights because the windshield is low.

This truck is much easier to get in and out of than a sports car. So it is a great choice for older people that still want something sporty and fast. The seats could use more lower back support. The cup holders are poor. Otherwise, the interior and radio are great.

Replacement parts are often hard to find or have to be ordered. Even pretty common things like tires, fenders, and windshields.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

This truck is a waste! A convertible pick-up?! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of! With dumb ideas like this it really isn't surprising Chevy's bankrupt.

Your right! It's a great vehicle! I think I'll go haul around some manure in the back of it, then I'll tow around a nice heavy utility trailer, then I might throw some ladders on the truck racks on the bed, and hey after all that maybe I go for some offroadin'!

THE THINGS I HAVE JUST LISTED ARE WHAT EVERY TRUCK SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO. An SSR does none of these. In fact, if you were to try any of these activities in an SSR, you would have a very unpleasant surprise with the lack of a roof. It's a waste if you ask me. If I want to go for a cruise on the back country roads, I'll buy a convertible. If I want to do some real work, I'll buy a truck. I won't mix the two.
