2010 Ford C-MAX Titanium TDCi 2.0 turbo diesel from Cyprus

Summary:

Spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended over any SUV

Faults:

The timing belt broke before 130,000 km.

Particulate filter gets clogged with city driving, causing a loss of power.

The clutch, although I haven't replaced it, occasionally makes quite a bit of noise when pressed. It doesn't cause any problems when engaging the clutch, but it's annoying.

Sometimes it's hard to start; the engine never stops, but with use it has difficulty starting. Luckily, I don't live in a cold climate, otherwise this problem would be much worse.

As for the interior, while the plastics aren't bad, they could be of better quality; over time, materials tend to creak a bit. The trunk plastics scratch quite easily.

Oil leaks are another problem; it doesn't happen to me often, but the car is not immune to this.

General Comments:

Even with the flaws that a vehicle of this type might have, for me it's a reliable and recommendable car. It's spacious (plenty of room for four people) and economical; the engine has enough power to move the car quite well, despite its characteristics.

Let me briefly talk about the car itself. It combines luxury and sportiness, with power windows in the front and rear, blue-tinted glass, and 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels that give it a dynamic look. It also has dual-zone climate control, the visibility package, and rear parking sensors.

The fact that the body is more square at the rear than at the front makes its cargo area more usable, with a fairly aerodynamic front end.

As soon as you sit in the driver's seat, you notice the high driving position and excellent visibility. It's comfortable to drive.

The interior is modular in the rear, where the three seats can be partially folded or removed, and where it's possible to configure it as a four-seater by removing the rear center seat.

The 2.0 TDCi engine is the most powerful diesel available, and it's more than enough for agile and fast driving in a minivan. It's not particularly noisy, and its fuel consumption on the highway is incredibly low.

The best thing about this MPV is that, when empty, it handles almost like a normal car. Only if you're heavily loaded on a winding road at a moderate speed will you notice (and even then, only very slightly) that you're in a taller vehicle.

These types of vehicles aren't made anymore, but for someone who values a car for four or more people that's fuel-efficient, comfortable, and generally reliable, the C-Max is a great option. Even after more than 15 years, it still looks quite modern to me.

2014 Ford C-MAX Zetec 1.6 TDCi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Unsure

Faults:

Water leaks at door sills (very common on this car).

Engine management light on (limp home mode).

EGR valve.

DPF.

Oil leak.

Key fob issues.

General Comments:

A typical modern MPV, the C-Max offers nothing special. That said, it is a fine family car when running correctly - OK to drive, can be economical, and plenty of comfort.

Inside is very comfortable seating wise and plenty of space and well designed areas for storage.

It's a shame the modern TDCi engines still aren't up to a good standard in reliability. I have had far too many expensive problems with this car. This car was looked after (full history) and I continued to service it correctly, yet it still gave lots of trouble.

Unlikely to go back to Ford, the car is just as troublesome as my old Fiesta. Watch for overpriced cars on the used market. These C-Max's are no better than any other car out there of similar ilk, yet they seem to command a premium on the used market. Maybe I got unlucky.

2017 Ford C-MAX Titanium 1.5 TDCi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Typical MPV

Faults:

Nothing other than servicing and required wear and tear parts.

General Comments:

Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPV) are what I have had to drive the last few years due to needing more space. I have always found them boring and the C-Max is no different.

It is a better car to drive than my previous Zafira, but the positive points end there. It is very spacious and has been reliable also, but that is expected of a modern car.

Titanium model has nice alloy wheels and electric everything. The spec to have.

1.5 TDCi is not fast, but will do over 60 mpg. One of the first cars I have drove with "Start Stop" thing and it is bloody annoying and you should probably turn it off. The saving in fuel is marginal.

Nothing wrong with it really, just a good family car, but a boring modern lump of steel and plastic as most are. Very difficult to say much more. If you are reading these reviews because you are after a bigger family vehicle, the C-Max is a good choice, cannot go wrong with a looked after car, just don't expect anything exciting.

Earlier "Focus C-MAX" was no better, and not great vehicles to keep long term.

I have a 2010 C-Max, the first generation model. Back then, it was just called C-Max, no longer Focus C-Max, but the engines and mechanics are generally the same.

I have nothing bad to say about it; so far, it's had only minor breakdowns for a car that's almost 15 years old but still runs like new.
