Wild statement to say the interior is cheap quality. Cheap quality interiors are those found on cars like the MK6 Jetta or the 3rd gen Mazda 3. The 4th gen Acura TL has some of the highest build quality for the interior of a car in the 21st century. Absolutely nothing creeks or rattles. The brakes also depend on what rotors you put on them so try not to cheap out on that if you want good feeling brakes. As for the transmission, I have never once felt it was hunting for gears in my ownership of a 2012 model with the 6 speed. It shifts and downshifts as you'd expect depending on the incline and throttle input. The transmission is also very responsive to upshifts and downshifts especially for a 2012 car that has a hydraulic automatic. Based on what you say, you either got a lemon or you don't understand how cars work and how to take care of them.

This is the case for many different brands. Some older models were better built, used better materials and were more reliable than the newest versions. A perfect example of this are the 93-97 Honda Accords. Great quality and reliability during that generation. But starting in 98 with the new models, the cars were cheapened up on the inside and they just felt more like a tin can, the difference was very noticeable. Not to mention the terrible problems with the V6 trannys that failed so often. All automakers go through a time of cost cutting and they see if they can get away with it as well.
But if too many issues arise then recalls are done, which is a risk that most automakers are willing to take. The latest Hondas and Acuras are really nice all around compared to the dark ages for them in the early to mid 2000s.
