My '92 vigor (purchased in '91) has been a dream. despite the fact the my daughter has nicked every corner of the car over the last 3 years, it still outperforms most rice rockets. Honda accord - NOT, do your homework nimrods. the 2.5 liter inline 5 is set up on a one off lightweight honeycomb structured platform - advanced for it's time. Honda designed the car to compete directly with the Audi 90. That weird 5 cly Honda engine was based on an ideal weight to power ratio balance. In fact, a big 4 cyl would be have been too shy of low end torque and smoothness while the Legends v-6 would have been too heavy and less fuel efficient. The engine is set up with a dual-stage intake maniford with 2 runners and 2 butterflies per cylinder. The cool thing is - at 5000 rpm's the secondaries open up for better cylinder fillings. My mercerdes ml430 actually cuts out at 4200 rpm's...
The only unavoidable expensive repair has been the heater fan replacement. Replacement requires the entire dash to be removed, about $1500... for it's time, this was a world class 4-door sports sedan that was probably to ahead and expense for honda to maintain. This is a terrific car, cheap on repairs (compared to my mercedes and porsche) and I expect to enjoy it for years to come...
Hey, did I mention the top speed is 130 plus.
I just purchased a 94 Vigor for my 18 y/o son for $2500, 188000 miles. Passed inspection, car rides smooth. As far as I know the seller changed the fluids, wires, no belts. I know that I need to change the belts and pump soon. When me and my brother test drove it home w/ac on no problem. When I was driving it on the interstate w/ac on no problem till my son got to pressing buttons then smoke came out of the vents. The smoke did not fill up the car, instead it evaporated. The a/c is still blows cold and heat is hot. I just want to know what other problem could it be. My son's father stated that it could be a freon leakage, which is poisonous. Other than that I need a trusted mechanic in Atlanta if you can suggest one. Thank you.
Hey bro, don't talk like that of a vigor, go get those faults fixed and take your babe for a ride on a highway for a 100kms and when coming back give it a strong and harsh handle and you will see how wrong you was when you posted this review, then go and change it OK?
VIGORS are special cars until today, and I hope the will remain special for a long time more. Don't insult a Pearl that Acuras engineers had created with such a dedication and inspirations..
I've owned 2 Vigors (still on 2nd). The first had 500,000 k's; current 287, 000 k's. Why'd I jump to buy another one? This car no matter where I go, always has heads turning. My first Vig was stock. Polished and buffed to dazzle any ricer out of the block. My current has a few minor upgrades, rims, magnaflow muffler, tints, and a massive sound system. That's it. Nothing special. And it turns heads.
Conclusion: this truly is a rare car. It's worth a lot more than the price I bought both of them for. Magnificent feel when you're in the driver seat. The steering feels absolutely amazing, feels like a racer. You feel every part of the car when driving. That's a plus with any car.
It's always a pleasure working on my Vigor. I enjoy it, and I learn a lot from this rare breed. A very unique car.
Solution to your comments about the Vigor; open the hood, get a bit of grease on your hands and maintain your car!!!
ps: This is pointless, comments were made in 2006. It's 2008. God!
I love my Vigor, wouldn't sell it for the world. I enjoy every day that I get to turn the baby on. With my dual exhaust, air intake, the car purrs like a Porsche. I get more heads turning from my Vigor than my Audi S4 or when I would drive my friends BMW 325 2003 or Mercedes SLK (the Mercedes did turn about as many heads, but it's a 60,000 dollar car).
I have had problems with the Vigor, like anyone else with any car. The ABS relay is a known problem, everyone has seen that orange glow and said CRAP!, two things that have worked for me: Double check the brake fluid level, and new brakes/check installation.
I also have had other electrical problems, again a known issue and not that big of a deal.
The car runs great, except about 20 miles ago smoke started coming out of hood, leak from the distributor cap -- turns out this was a recall on the seal. 20 dollar fix.
Love the Vigor guys, there's not many out there, and the ones that are left need to be babied, they are an antique collectors car.
I was rear ended by a truck and my cherished Vigor is moaning. Actually I've just started having a problem with my relay... at least I hope its my relay. Well things I've done to my '92 GS. Clutch, radiator and radiator motor, timing stuff with belts and seals, speakers, rear calipers (some yahoo did not compress properly), muffler, o'ring on distributor, found a wrecked Vig with a good DSP radio and replaced it... I still have the old one (who knows what solder joints have to be fixed?
Anyway back to the accident. Truck crushed trunk lid, broke right rear light and dented in bumper with some deformation of trunk body... I was angry. I just had the trunk and hood repainted and this "lamebrain" goes to sleep at the wheel.
I'm having some steering issues. I noticed that the car wonders badly on uneven asphalt... anybody experience this?
I own a 92 Vigor 5 spd. It is a Canadian car. I am looking for the DRL relay (The DRLs are not working and research shows re-soldering a few joints will fix the problem). I assumed that the relay would be in the same spot as the 92 Accord but it isn't. Does anyone know where I can find it?
I love my 92 GS 5 spd Vigor! I've owned it for 7 years now, and it now and I've had to fix a few things, new rad, oxy/ABS sensors/relays, gas tank, and I just finished replacing the blower motor myself. It now has 260,000 kms and still drives like a dream! I find myself looking at her as I walk away in parking lots all the time because the styling is so timeless and classy! I also find the interior is very high quality and refined; it was the last Acura to have REAL wood accents.
We plan to buy a second car this year (probably a 2006-2008 TSX), and guess which car will get the garage all Winter? The Vigor of course!!
I own a 93 Acura Vigor GS, and love the crap out of it.
I did need to replace the clutch, 700 dollars later. And I have had a few electrical hiccups, but besides that, this is a very special car. For having over 200,000 miles on it it sure does prove Honda/Acura engineering.
My God, just drive the thing, it's amazing.
Funny thing is someone tried to say it was a slow heavy pig ;) They found out the hard way. An Eclipse was my first race kill, and many more have come after it LOL.
There are few cars that show such style and class as this. If you get this car someday, keep it and make it your baby, and it will treat you like a king.
I too was just rear ended. I am not having problems with car not wanting to crank over. Anyone know what might be the cause?
