Summary:

Superb car as long as it is in good condition

Faults:

Heating fan speed control unit failed, replaced cheap.

Passenger's side door lock replaced when bought.

Hydraulic cam belt tensioner failed @185.000km.

Ash tray wouldn't stay closed.

General Comments:

The 155 V6 is a good all rounder, has the nerve and character of an Alfa, and still is comfortable on long trips and city driving.

Interior is quite solid. Ashtray and windscreen defogger vents are the worst parts in it and usually break.

If you ever buy one no matter what, do a cambelt change or have it checked (in case the seller has changed it). The hydraulic belt tensioner usually fails, there is an option, a mechanical unit that Alfa Romeo itself sells, it is cheaper and safer.

Electronic damping control works fine for now, replaced all 4 shocks. Nice feature to have on the car, VERY expensive to fix, still you can fit non electronic shocks if they fail.

Electric heated seats still work, very comfortable to be honest.

The car handles very well for its year, brakes are on the poor side of the scale, you won't lack brake power, but they should be better having into consideration that this car goes over 200km/h (120mph) with ease.

The car feels well planted at high speeds and gives a nice safety feeling when taking a sharp turn. Few body roll, this chassis has a strange tendency to understeer when turning into a corner with power and oversteer when turning in while braking or without your foot on the gas, just stay in the throttle if the last happens.

Summary:

A very worthwhile headache!

Faults:

Wiper arm broke.

Driver side electric window failed.

Leaking injector caused a backfire and explosion in the inlet manifold.

General Comments:

Given the age and mileage of this car, it is doing very well given the bad press Alfas generally get, though if I was not mechanically inclined I would probably never buy one.

Parts are hard to come by at acceptable prices, but I fixed my electric window with a Fiat Tempra part, and replaced my injectors with used BMW ones (lots of Internet research)

The engine is the jewel in this car. It sounds wonderful and is quite strong given its modest power output.

The interior is rattly, but that was expected; all other electrics and climate and air con still work perfectly.

Handles very well on Koni sport shocks. I love it.

Summary:

Great car to drive and own!!!

Faults:

Actually I do not have that much problem with the car. What annoying is the ABS warning signal sometimes shows while the ABS system is still working well. Air-conditioning system needs big maintenance around 70,000-80,000 Km. I have already changed compressor, fan and condenser.

General Comments:

The car itself has a very strong character. It performs a class-leading performance while consumes not as much as expected. I have done 215 Km/h. The fuel consumption is around 8 Km/L in town. While it provides an amazing 15 Km/L in highway cruising.

Even today, the car still performs as if it is young. It can still beat other new models in the same category on the road head to head.

Summary:

Nice little sedan

Faults:

Nothing until today, the clutch just went out.

General Comments:

Very good car. It is geared low for driving through the mountains. Excellent car, I just don't like how it revs very high on the Autostrada and Autobahn. It's top speed is 210km/h at around 6200 RPM's in 5th gear. The car handles well and has very good acceleration.

Hi, I just purchased a 1997 Alfa Romeo 155 Twin Spark. I am looking for a web site on 155 engines. Do you know of any.

Regards.

Tony Fischetti.

Summary:

High-performance wolf in sheep's clothing

Faults:

My car had been off the road for 5 years when I bought it, so during the first 6 months, the fuel pump blew, leeking hoses, radiator and some other stuff.

After 2 years the stepper motors of the climate control unit failed.. This is VERY expensive.. Don't want that to happen again

After this it's been as reliable as a swiss watch.. Now after 10 years a bit surface rust is starting to show up, but this will be taken care off.

General Comments:

It is a better car than a 156. I drive a 156 1.9 JTD, and it's no comparison, it handles like it is on really, lots of power, and great sound. They don't make cars like this anymore ;)

Great car to annoy BMW's :)

And I like the design, even after 10 years it still looks like a new car..

Summary:

Cuore Sportivo!

Faults:

Electonic, electronic, electronic from hell.... Like many Alfa Romeo's as I know them :))))

Something knocking in left front wheel, but nobody knows what this is... All mechanics say, "Everything is OK!" It's strange... It's knocking too loud to be OK!!!???!!!

General Comments:

Great car... Excellent performance... Excellent design... In a BMW or something else you can't feel what you can feel in Alfa Romeo. Believe me. Try and you'll see! It is my second Alfa Romeo, but for sure it is not the last!

Try checking the suspension top mount. Maybe the rubber base is worn out (I know from experience!)

Faults:

Slave Cylinder failed, one door on central locking failed, indicators sometimes stick.

General Comments:

Build quality could be better, it creaks and groans as you drive along. Draught from passenger side door. Customer service from dealers was very poor. They even managed to damage the control panel on the car. The car is enjoyable to drive, but handling could be better. Which I believe was sorted out on the later 16V models.
