1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sport Sedan 2.0 petrol from North America
Summary:
Beautiful italian classic
Faults:
I bought the car at a classic car auction 8 years ago.
It's in very good condition, although it had some minor flaws.
The rust is especially noticeable under the front and rear doors and in the trunk, right where the spare tire is located.
The air conditioning wasn't working, so it had to be completely rebuilt. The brakes were quite worn, still working, but I fixed them anyway.
Up until the time of purchase, I noticed some carbon deposits (normal for a car that hasn't been used for many years or has been lightly used).
During the first year, it had constant oil leaks, which have since been repaired.
General Comments:
I'll try to be as objective as possible.
For me, the car is beautiful, both inside and out. For its time, it was very well equipped with air conditioning, a sunroof, corduroy seats and leather carpets, power steering, and top of the range materials; the only thing it didn't include were electric windows.
It has stood the test of time very well; it's easy to drive and maneuver, giving a feeling of blending the luxury and comfort of today with the style and nostalgia of a classic.
It's pleasant to drive on a leisurely summer cruise. I don't think it's a car to use daily for commuting, but rather to enjoy on your days off.
As for performance, as I said before, the car is comfortable and easy to drive. It's a good combination between a sedan and a sports car of its era. The engine is somewhat noisy although I like the sound. It's quite fast and has good acceleration. The speedometer only indicates a max speed of 120 mph, which I personally think is well over that. Fuel consumption increases if you accelerate hard, but with normal driving it consumes less than the European cars it once competed with.
With proper care, this car won't have any major issues (unlike other Alfa Romeos) and can be enjoyed like any classic over the years.
Since I'm not going to sell the car, I'll do some updates when I need to make some changes or if a major fault appears.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
