1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio 2.0 lier DOHC Four from North America

Summary:

Pininfarina timeless design with Italian flair for style and racing heritage

Faults:

Signal light flasher.

Horn.

Wheel bearings.

2nd gear synchroniser.

Motor and transmission mounts.

Driveshaft components replaced.

General Comments:

I love the fit and finish, original paint after 29 years, original interior, just replaced the original top, all look great. A very well balanced sports car that is very reliable.

Repairs are not expensive; get a great Alfa mechanic; not for the mechanic who is inexperienced with Alfa Romeo, which is true for any make.

Use premium gas without ethanol and drive it regularly, at least twice per month. Get one that has been garaged and maintained by an experienced, thoughtful mechanic.

Repair problems when they arise, especially the motor, transmission mounts, and driveshaft components.

1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio 2.0 hemi from North America

Summary:

If you love the car, you will look after it, and it will be as reliable as any other

Faults:

Clutch was in need of repair when bought.

Replaced the original rotors with drilled and slotted.

Other than that, regular maintenance is the only thing.

General Comments:

The car is a work of art. A work of art that you can drive to a beach with a cooler in the trunk. Take your best friend and your dog with you.

With the Recaro seats, your rear is happy, and with the top down, the smile on your face just can't be torn off..

Another important factor is the car is simple to work on; very basic..

1988 Alfa Romeo Spider from North America

Summary:

If you like leather seats and performance you should buy one too!

Faults:

Since buying this alfa I have sunk $3000 into new brake system, engine mounts and shaft mounts.

She has 62K miles and her engine is strong, with more high end torque than my 1974 Spider.

The exhaust note still needs some tampering with though, as it doesn't even come close to the sounds of the '74's growls and moans.

General Comments:

People always let their eyes linger on these cars. Pinanifarina's ingenious design extends into the Ferraris and Maseratis of the late sixties/early seventies.

There's something about that black rubber spoiler and the rear lights, coupled with the painted side mirrors and original metallic mauve paint job that always gets me.

This car is eye-candy.

The air-conditioning is freezing.

After installing a nice Alpine CD and some high-performance speakers down by the feet, she's ready to party.

1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Great toy or second vehicle

Faults:

Replacement of fuel pump.

Replaced the top as the original was ripped in a few places, however a local auto upholstery place did a great job on the replacement.

Seats are ripped and require replacement.

General Comments:

As in most, first to second gear is touchy.

The handling isn't fantastic, but is enough to enjoy the curves.

Wider, lower profile tires than the stock ones would help.

There aren't many of these cars around so they do attract quite a bit of attention.

The spiders are a fun car to cruise around in during the summer, good sound, decent handeling, nice sports car feel. Definitely happy with my purchase, but like the older interiors better. This one is a little "plastic" for my liking.
