1986 Audi 80 CC/B2 Typ81 1.2 turbo diesel from Lithuania

Summary:

Audi - Awesome, Unbelievable, Determined and Immortal car

Faults:

When I bought that car, previous owner was removed rear foglights and installed something that nobody knows today. This car's power is 51kW (68.4HP), so it's bit weak - for smooth and nice engine sound, running at 60km/h (37.3mph) you must already have third gear on (fourth is even better). The entire car cockpit's lighting system was down, but after some months I fixed it up.

Car's loudspeakers (Blaupunkt Blue Magic ) are in very very bad condition (except tweeters) - the woofers' membranes are cracked, so the sound is "buzzing".

General Comments:

I like this car because it is comfortable, nice looking, and has got all needed driving features.

1986 Audi 80 1.6 normally aspirated from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A workhorse who needs more attention than I would give!

Faults:

Driver's door Llck does not operate.

Oil leaks.

Clogged feeder pipe.

Water getting into the engine (hence blocked feeder pipe from sludge)!

Wheel bearings.

Shocks.

Dash lights and speedo not functioning.

Oil pressure valve malfunction.

Engine mounts.

Brakes grinding.

Seats are worn.

Heater/fan in car has stopped working.

Rear de-mister only works if the fog light is on.

Numerous CV boots gone!

General Comments:

But, I expect that from a car of this age.

It is fun to drive (needs power steering though!).

There is not a spot of rust on the entire car (great plus for a car of its age).

Very easy to work on.

1986 Audi 80 GTE 1.8 injection from Australia and New Zealand

Faults:

Water pump, rear wheel bearing, worn spark plug leads. Had to re-weld a bolt in the subframe. Driver's power window, sparkie said it had some water in it. All age-related, nothing else has broken down.

General Comments:

Solid, reliable car, not prone to rust. Good performance, frugal enough. Owned since '98. Safe -- a friend survived a serious crash in an identical car, with only a small wound (and a bit of shock). Parts well-priced. Durable, well put-together. Sports seats offer good support. Still stylish for a 15-year old car.

I have this car. I really enjoy it!Probably the best car in the world.

1986 Audi 80 GT 1.6 carb (engine code DT) from Latvia

Faults:

I bought an AUDI-80 when it was 10 years old (from Germany).

I changed the gearbox with another used one (~150 USD) after buying (noisy bearings).

No other problems, except I crashed with it in Dec 1998 (120 km/h on icy road, without any injuries).

General Comments:

Very good car with very good passive safety. Quiet engine. My next car now is again an AUDI-80 (type 89, year 1988, 1.8S).

1986 Audi 80 CL 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

In the last 4 years I have owned it, nothing major.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, quiet car with plenty of power when necessary and good economy. 90K on the clock and feels smoother than many new cars. Definitely recommended.
