Summary:

Exciting to drive, Depressing for repairs

Faults:

Tie rod ends.

Exhaust sensors (4).

Torque converter.

Secondary exhaust fan.

Wiper fluid reservoir cracked and leaking.

Driver information electronic display fading.

Auto-leveling headlamps... $6700 estimate to fix everything wrong.

Just took the car in to get new tie rods, and found all these other issues.

General Comments:

So much fun to drive. Very confident in the snow. Accelerates quickly up the mountains. Feels safe at high speeds and in crappy weather.

Very comfortable, even had heated rear seats! I am going to fix the car and drive it for many more years. I just wish it wasn't so troublesome.

Summary:

Great car. Very good on fuel, handles great, comfortable, quiet ride, simple to repair, affordable

Faults:

Temperature sensor faulty.

Light bulb of rear brake light.

License plate illumination both burned.

Visor clip driver side broke.

Leaky rear differential, leaky oil filter attachment.

These are things the car had bad on it when I first got it from a private seller. 7.000 dollars purchase.

The car had no paint, body, tires, brakes or any other than mentioned problems.

Garage car, well maintained and cared for.

General Comments:

I have had many VWs from a 72 Beetle, 83 Passat, 87 Passat Iraqi Export model, 90 Fox, 93 Fox, 93 Passat VR6 "Great car!!!" 98 Passat Turbo Station wagon, and now. 99 A4 Quattro 2.8.

Guys, we are in 2010.

I have just acquired a 11 years old Audi that had less than 100000 kilometers on it. Of course there had to be something wrong or to be fixed on it.

The secret with VWs or Audi's is; do it yourself,

as much as possible.

Engine rebuild is out of the question! Buy a new or rebuilt already.

There are thousands of junk yards selling parts! Forget the dealer unless you really need some new parts that are unavailable anywhere! Nearly impossible to find.

Buy tools that are good quality. For your car,

become friends with your mechanic, and autoparts guy.

You will spend money on a car regardless. New or used!!! Having car payments is the same as fixing an old car!

Be ahead of problems. Inspect your car, learn, read, buy books, software; whatever it takes.

Become one with your vehicle. Repair all the things that are wrong or to go wrong soon, and you are driving the best car in the world! That goes for any vehicle.

VWs and Audi's cost more because they are better. No question there.

You as the owner, are responsible for driving your machine to its excellence.

Be a good driver, and your VW or Audi will last for ever!

Regarding the guy with 5 brake jobs???

He is probably a very bad driver, and his car, any car, will always be broke!

Audi Quattro A4

Faults:

Nothing major has gone wrong. I have been blessed with a good car so far.

General Comments:

I have been very blessed with my 96 Audi A4 Quattro.

It just now rolled 66,000, and no major issues yet.

I have had no major problem with my car except for Temp. sensor and seal on the heater unit, which didn't cost that much.

I love driving this car! It is really sporty car. I would recommend this car to my friends.

I have a 3 year old Audi allroad. Certainly fun to drive, but the lack of reliability detracts from the product.

Radio failed in year one.

The electronic controller of the suspension system failed.

3 of the 4 air bag suspension units failed (very expensive)

Flat spot in the acceleration took multiple visits to the dealer to fix.

Excessive tyre wear has had all tyres replaced.

There does seem to be a pattern developing here...
