2015 BMW Mini Base 1.5 liter i3 from North America

Summary:

Never buying another Mini product again; total piece of garbage

Faults:

Transmission failure, oil filter housing failure, intake moisture freezes up throttle body.

General Comments:

Mild small town driving with occasional highway and the transmission bearings are cooked and the tranny whines like crazy. The dual mass flywheel is broken and clangs around, very embarrassing to drive. Oil filter housing cracked at the heat exchanger and nothing is covered by BMW on a recall or otherwise apparently.

I'm thoroughly disappointed with BMW's service; they won't even look at the car unless I shell out $200! Warranty is up because of age not kms. Now I'm stuck with a car that can't be driven with any expectation of reliability. They had to tighten subframe components before I picked it up at point of sale, should have seen the writing on the wall. Avoid this generation of Mini; you're better off with almost literally anything else.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Don't know much about a BMW Mini i3 model, but I thought it was an electric car with an option of getting a range extender 2 cyl engine on it. But you have a 1.5 engine in that. Do I have the correct car? Please correct me and thanks in advance.

No, it has to be the standard petrol version with manual transmission. By no way the best built cars around with that engine/trans combo.

They mean inline 3 engine, not the BMW i3 electric car.
