I've had absolutely no problems with the car at all.
This car handles really well. It can turn on a dime, accelerate quickly, and has a great turn radius.
Obviously, this is not a car that you'll want to take to the grocery store. There's no trunk to speak of and not much storage available in the cabin.
Controls are conveniently located. This car is very easy to drive.
Let's see it beat a 426 HEMI.
The Z3 Ugly??? I don't think so. Maybe your're thinking of the new Z4. Granted the Z3 may not be the fastest thing on 4 wheels - but for the price, beauty, and fun factor of driving a roadster it can't be beat!!!
Why should it beat a 426 Hemi?
I have a 3.2 M Roadster (321 hp) - it'll do 60 mph in 5 seconds flat. What will the Hemi do?
It is also stylish and sounds great reving to 7000 with the top down racing up the mountains here in NZ so I love it.
Bit small for me tho!
First off, the car is a real looker! Regardless if I'm driving it or have it parked, someone will always turn a head towards it. You feel and sometimes catch the drivers of larger vehicles looking down into it at a stop light. It is a combination of a number of things from the classic styling, compact yet functional interior that set it apart.
Someone will always want to pass you!!Let them.Z3 owners know what I'm talking about. You know what this car can do and it performs when needed. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Ideal for those 5'10 or below. You know it will become a classic and glad you had the sheer joy of riding in one. Turns great! Keep it covered. Those that can't have one will want to ruin it for you. I know first hand. The more you read about this car the more you appreciate it. With rising gas prices (like land, they'll never go back down) this car does fairly well. You can get by on mid-grade.Don't let anyone tell you different. Made for the open road. Open it up once a week and let your hair stand up and get the wind deflector. It does help your dates hair from flying in her face. Maybe the other join is a subtle feeling of a rumble between your legs and why women love love to be in it!!
My 2000 Z3 is hands down, the best car I've ever owned. and I've owned A lot of cars. Handling, speed, looks..this car has it all. I'll be sitting with the top down waiting for my wife and somebody (male female young old) will make a positive comment! I'm 60 yrs old and they're sure not giving ME the compliments! My Z keeps me young!!
I just traded my 03 Fatboy (Harley Davidson) for my 2000 Z3 last Thursday and I couldn't be happier with it. Mine is white with tan top/interior, power top, Harmon Cardin (sp?) CD system... it ROCKS! It has just under 55k miles on it and I gave $18k for it (including taxes, tags). It is VERY clean with only a few paint chips and the rear window needs to be polished. Has like-new BFG tires all around.
I've wanted one of these since I first saw James Bond driving one... I just couldn't afford one until now.
Love that crack about a hemi... talk about apples/oranges comparison!
I just bought a 2001 Z3, Silver/Black. 27k miles and it feels brand new! I have to say best car I have owned. Looks, performance, it has it all. I have bought American all my life Chevelle SS, SUv's, GM etc. This feels so much more substantial. They'll have to come up with something that will get me to switch back AND a 426 HEMI won't do it!
I just bought a z3 roadster 2.8 m sport after a very traumatic time with a 2.4 fiat stilo abarth want my advice for the extra couple of hunderd pounds get the bmw beats it hands down looks performance and more so reliability possibly the best car I have ever owned a future classic and so so so much better than any hemi I have ever seen.

Beat My Wheels.
See ya all safe driving.
I purchased a 2000 BMW Z3 2.3, Silver with Black leather, and I could not have made a better choice! Women love this car! The Z3 is much better looking than the Z4 hands down! BMW Z4 sales have been terrible since the Z3 model ended in 2002. Everything I have read says that the Z3 will be a classic roadster someday, so hold on to yours if you are lucky enough to own one!

I can't stand the lines on the newer Z4. Today I bought a 2000 Z3, for $12500, 2.3 (2.5) in grey metallic, with 63000 miles. I had the German Dealer install a new rear window... extra $250...but well worth it. I love the torque of the straight 6, and the sexiness of the car.
Bottom line is this...
This car is DESTINED to be a classic.
I'm going to add the rear mesh wind screen ASAP.
Enjoy the ride.
Best car ever!!!
I got my 2000 2.3L Z3 a few months ago on eBay for $11,000. This car is just unbelievably fun to drive. It's fast (I've had it up to 130, and I think it can do a little over 150) and beautiful - I'm constantly getting comments for an 8-year old car. Mileage isn't too bad (21/26), and the handling is fantastic - I have yet to take a turn where I felt even slightly close to losing traction.
The rear suspension is antiquated, and as a result the ride feels great on a smooth road, but gets bouncy and loose on even moderately rough roads. Lots of people complain about the plastic rear window, but I almost never have the top up anyway (I live in the south). And because the window is so big (which you couldn't do if it were glass), it makes the cabin brighter and less claustrophobic when the top is up.
Just an amazing, fun car. Get one if you can.
I have a red 2000 Z3 I bought 1 1/2 years ago and I love it. I wish I had the dough to buy 3 more and store them someplace. My only complaint is the stereo system speakers, especially the rear one between the seats.
Is there an economical way to replace the speakers? The Bavarian Autosport catalog sells replacements for $500-$650. Are there other options?
$5 - $600?! that is extortionate and frankly quite funny.
Look in any automotive sound system catalogue, replacement aftermarket speakers will not cost anywhere near the figure you quoted and will usually always be of far higher quality and power, so will instantly make your in car sound system better without replacing the head unit or any wiring!
