I have had a few small problems with the car and one more serious problem. I just had the intake gasket replaced by the dealer for $750 after turning down all the extra repairs they tried to tack on that would have put the price well over $1000. All other repairs were minor enough for me to repair myself (although I'm a little more mechanically inclined then most). I had to replace a leaking water pump, thermostat (that's a pretty big job on this car), and the heater resistor switch. The blower motor somehow got some moisture in it and shorted out for a while. I cleaned it up and had my 5 year old son dry it off with the hair dryer for 15-20 minutes (He loved it), then it worked again.
I bought this car because it has plenty of room for the family, It has a VERY comfortable ride, and most importantly, it was cheap! I guess that's a drawback if you're buying a new model because it has a low resale value. I paid $6500 dollars when it was 4 years old with 60,000 miles. It was a good deal, but since I've owned GM products in the past, I'm watching the odometer move closer to the 100,000 mile range and I'm getting a little nervous.
If they are as good as 1992's, they will go 250,000 miles!
I bought a 1999 Buick Century, new. It drove great for six years with minor problems. However, in 2005 & 2006 the car began to stall. This would happen when I turned it off, ran an errand,& then tried to drive off. The car would begin to shudder & then stall. I took it to the Buick dealer twice & they could find nothing wrong with it. I found that if I let it set for approximately 15 to 20 minutes (at the most overnight) the car would run for another month with no problem. This is nerve wracking, especially when I buy gas. I don't know whether it will stall or let me drive off.
I bought a Buick Century 1999. There is a high noise level when the windows are closed. It is impossible to open the windows, as the vibrating sound is deafening.
My 1999 Buick Century has only had problems with the window switch. I had the window motor replaced for about 300 dollars and 3 months later the driver window switch got stuck and only works every now and then I have yet to fix it. I notice when the widows are up I can hear the wind coming through.
16:54, it sounds to me like you have a clogged fuel filter. Most mechanics are clueless on how to diagnose a drivability problem if they hook a vehicle up to a scanner and it does not spit out a code. I doubt there is anything seriously wrong with the car. Of course there is no guarantee your problem is from the fuel filter, if it has not been changed yet, I would fully expect it to be giving you problems by now. Given the symptoms you described, and the presumed absence of a trouble code, the fuel filter would be the first thing I would check. Even if that is not the problem, I doubt it is anything serious. When troubleshooting, always check the basics first. Good luck.
My Buick had electrical problems. I found that the wires that run through the door were breaking off one-by-one. It's easily fixed and you don't have to take it to the shop. Simply cut through the hose covering the wires and extend any broken wires you find.
I bought my 1999 Buick Century new from the dealer with 9 miles on the odometer. It is a lemon. I have had nearly every problem I have read other people have had.
Minor problems: the bad power window switch (2001), a headlight that keeps burning out (and then causes the corresponding blinker to blink in fast mode) (2003), had the fuel tank leak checked (2007), when you shut off the car it wouldn't restart (2006), numerous spurious check engine lights (1999-2007), rear plate lights don't work & it isn't the bulb or fuse (?) (2007).
Major problems: replaced the valve in the transmission that keeps the pressure up for the over drive (2002), a couple years later (2004) had the transmission rebuilt, replaced the fuel pump (2006), taillights & dash lights are out and it isn't the fuse (2007).
I love the ride, but hate the unreliability - this is my one and only foray into a GM product. I'm going to drop this for a Lexus. GM loses $30K and Lexus gets $40K.
I have a 1999 Century, and when I have the key on and the engine off, I lose all power when I turn on the left turn indicator.
