1984 Buick Park Avenue review from North America
"If only it wasn't yellow"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought it, it needed:
-New gas tank
-Gas lines
-Brake lines
-Front rotors/pads
-Motor for the heater fan.
Requires pumping the gas pedal to start if it's been sitting for more than 3 hours.
Power door locks are dead.
Replaced rear brakes.
Brakes (brand new) still rumble when slowing down from 55mph+.
Hubcap lock tool was missing so the mechanic had his own way of getting them off and took off the locking mechanisms.
"Hop" in one tire. They were all mismatching when I bought it so I replaced all four.
Chrome trim on the dashboard is wearing away in some areas leaving butter-yellow plastic showing.
A/C doesn't work.
Cruise Control doesn't work.
Passenger side Park Avenue logo should light up when headlights are on. It flickers once in awhile, but mostly is dead.
Rear speakers are dying.
The color. It's a horrible cream yellow with a brown top. I wish I could paint it.
General comments?
This car has been surprisingly good to me considering it's age and the fact that it was driven by a 20 year old kid for a few years. I can tell he didn't care for it too much because the rear quarter on the passenger side is all damaged. There's also a dent on the front driver side up near the parking light, and the bumper and headlight trims are all cracked.
But it still runs strong once I get it running. Steering is smooth and easy. I love driving it. Acceleration is slow, but I don't plan to race this car at all.
I bought it for comfort and style. The seats really are like two big Lazy-Boys (as another reviewer put it). Steering wheel is smooth hard plastic as opposed to big bulky rubber ones you find on most cars today that you can barely grip onto. Aside from the chrome trim, everything looks brand new inside the car. Interior really holds up well.
